Senior Java Software Engineer

Job Description: Job Title: Senior Java Backend Developer Location: Mississauga, ON (Hybrid) Employment Type: Contract / Full-Time Domain: Banking / Financial Services – Mandatory Experience: 10+ Years Position Summary • We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Backend Developer with 10+ years of software development experience and strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Microservices, and Cloud technologies. The ideal candidate must have solid experience working within the Banking/Financial Services domain and be capable of designing, developing, and supporting scalable enterprise-grade backend applications. The candidate will work closely with architects, business analysts, product owners, and engineering teams to build highly available, secure, and scalable backend solutions for banking applications. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend applications using Java and Spring Boot. • Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and enterprise APIs for banking applications. • Design and implement Microservices-based architectures following industry best practices. • Develop scalable, resilient, and secure services for high-volume financial transactions. • Participate in the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support. • Collaborate with architects and technical leads to translate business requirements into technical solutions. • Design API contracts, service interfaces, data models, and integration patterns. • Implement exception handling, logging, monitoring, security, and performance optimization. • Work with relational and NoSQL databases and optimize SQL queries where required. • Develop applications using cloud-native technologies and deploy/manage services in cloud environments. • Work with CI/CD pipelines and support automated build, testing, and deployment processes. • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes. • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and engineering best practices. • Mentor junior and mid-level developers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing. • Work in an Agile/Scrum development environment. Required Technical Skills Core Java • 10+ years of hands-on experience in Java development. • Strong knowledge of Java fundamentals, Collections, Multithreading, Exception Handling, JVM concepts, and Java 8+ features. • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and design principles. • Experience with performance optimization and debugging of enterprise applications. Spring Boot & Microservices • Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot. • Extensive experience designing and developing Microservices. • Strong knowledge of Spring Framework, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and Spring Security. • Experience with service-to-service communication and distributed systems. • Understanding of resilience patterns, scalability, fault tolerance, and service discovery. APIs • Strong experience developing REST APIs. • Experience with API design, API security, authentication, authorization, versioning, and documentation. • Experience with JSON, HTTP, OAuth2/JWT and API integration patterns. • Experience with API gateways such as Apigee, Kong, AWS API Gateway, or Azure API Management is a plus. Cloud Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform: • AWS • MS Azure • Cloud Platform (GCP) • Experience deploying and operating Java/Microservices applications in cloud environments. • Understanding of cloud-native architecture, containers, scalability, monitoring, and security. • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is highly preferred. Database • Strong SQL skills with databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or DB2. • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB is a plus. • Experience with database optimization and transaction management. DevOps & Engineering Tools • Experience with Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or similar. • Exposure to Docker/Kubernetes and automated deployment. • Experience with application monitoring and logging tools is preferred. • Knowledge of Kafka or other messaging platforms is highly desirable. • Banking Domain – Mandatory Candidates must have significant hands-on experience in the Banking / Financial Services domain. Preferred Qualifications • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. • Experience working with large-scale enterprise banking applications. • Experience with event-driven architecture and Kafka. • Knowledge of AWS/Azure cloud architecture. • Experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift. • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices. • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams. • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
