Founding Software Engineer Intern

About the role We're looking for an engineer to take initiative and improve our product and algorithm as Campus Crush grows. This is a fast-paced, early-stage startup role for someone who takes ownership, moves quickly and ships. We want someone who'll spot what's not working and go fix it. We want you to bring your thoughts and opinions to help us build, rather than wait for our instructions. This is an unpaid role, with opportunity for equity upon successful trial and hands-on software engineering experience. What you'll do Own the day-to-day improvement of the product: acting on user feedback, and using AI critically as a tool to ship changes quickly.Improve our matching algorithm. That means data processing, ML training, clustering, better signals and smarter scoring, and testing what makes for better matches.Come up with and build new features and fixes yourself, not just work through a backlog.Look at how people actually use the app, find where they drop off or get frustrated, and turn that into the next thing to build.Have real say in product direction, working directly with the founders.Ship on Supabase, Vercel and Git and see your work reach users fast. About Campus Crush Campus Crush starts with a simple idea: a little help meeting someone, and some time to get to know them in person. We bring together uni students across Melbourne. You tell us a little about yourself, we look for a compatible match, and book the date in for you. After each date, feedback feeds back into our algorithm to make future matches stronger. We are in our pilot phase with strong traction and are a team of three. Bonus If you've worked on any personal projects, including uni club projects or othersHave hands-on ML experience, clustering, recommendation or matching systems, plus comfort with data processing and training modelsAre strong in TypeScript/JavaScript and can ship a feature end to end.
