Senior Security Engineer

Role Description The Senior Security Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in the Washington DC–Baltimore Area. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining security architectures that protect Layer One’s infrastructure solutions and customer environments. Day-to-day tasks include assessing security risks, conducting vulnerability analyses, and implementing controls across applications, networks, and systems. The Senior Security Engineer will collaborate with engineering and project teams to integrate security requirements into solution designs, develop security policies and procedures, and support incident response activities. The role also involves monitoring security tools, reviewing logs, preparing technical documentation, and providing guidance and mentoring to junior security staff and project stakeholders. Qualifications Strong skills in Cybersecurity and Information Security, with the ability to define and implement comprehensive security controls and governance.Proficiency in Network Security and Security Engineering for designing and securing data, voice, video, and physical security infrastructures.Experience with Application Security practices, including secure coding principles, code reviews, and application vulnerability management.Knowledge of security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) and relevant regulatory requirements for public and private sector clients.Hands-on experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM tools, endpoint protection, and encryption technologies.Ability to perform threat modeling, risk assessments, penetration testing coordination, and vulnerability remediation planning.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related field; advanced certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or equivalent are highly beneficial.Proven experience in security engineering roles supporting infrastructure projects, preferably within the DC–Baltimore region or similar environments.
