About The Role We are seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join our innovative team and contribute to the development of Vega, our AI-powered platform that surfaces insights and automates actions across LaunchDarkly products. This is a greenfield opportunity where you will play a pivotal role in evolving Vega from an observability-focused assistant into a comprehensive, cross-product platform that serves Feature Management customers and supports a new usage-based SKU. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable APIs, services, and agent infrastructure primarily in Go, working on data pipelines and high-scale systems. Collaboration across product, design, and engineering teams will be essential as you shape the future of AI capabilities within LaunchDarkly’s ecosystem. Your work will directly impact customer activation, platform reliability, and the delivery of enterprise-grade features that enhance our observability and feature management offerings. Qualifications 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering production-quality backend systemsProficiency in Go, Java, Rust, or C++, with experience designing APIs and distributed servicesExperience building or integrating large language model (LLM)-powered features, agents, or AI-driven workflowsStrong background in data-intensive systems such as streaming pipelines, columnar stores (e.g., ClickHouse), or high-volume ingestion systemsExcellent product instincts with the ability to translate ambiguous requirements into well-scoped solutionsCollaborative mindset with strong communication skills, capable of working effectively across teams and functionsFamiliarity with LaunchDarkly, feature flagging, or observability tooling is a plusExperience with usage-based product features, sandboxing/isolation technologies, or developer tooling is advantageous Responsibilities Design, develop, and deploy backend features for the Vega platform, including APIs, Go services, agent infrastructure, and data pipelinesTake ownership of features from initial prototype and API design through to production deployment and ongoing iterationOperate and maintain high-throughput data systems ensuring reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency at scaleCollaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver impactful solutionsParticipate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and contribute to best practices for system quality and observabilityWrite maintainable, well-tested code while promoting engineering standards and code qualityMentor team members and foster a collaborative, high-trust engineering environmentEngage in on-call rotations, taking ownership of production reliability and incident managementExpand Vega’s capabilities into feature management, including flag cleanup automation and AI-driven dashboard creationDesign and support sandboxed AI agent execution infrastructure, ensuring safety, resource limits, and auditabilityBuild data pipelines for enterprise integrations and usage metering to support a usage-based monetization modelContribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and engineering standards across teams Benefits Competitive salary aligned with experience and geographic locationRestricted Stock Units (RSUs) as part of the compensation packageComprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance plansMental health and well-being benefitsFlexible work arrangements and supportive company cultureOpportunities for professional growth and development within a cutting-edge technology environment Equal Opportunity LaunchDarkly is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive workplace.
