Technical Product Development Manager | Consumer Electronic Products Location: Hemel Hempstead Salary: Up to £55,000 + Benefits The Role KO2's client is seeking a technically strong Technical Product Development Manager to own the technical direction of a range of consumer electronic products. Sitting between engineering, product development and supplier collaboration, you'll act as the internal technical authority with external manufacturing partners — reviewing designs, challenging engineering decisions, and ensuring products deliver industry-leading performance. This suits someone who understands electronics and hardware development, but is equally driven by product innovation, research and translating technology into successful consumer products. Some travel to partners in China is required, and our client needs someone genuinely hands-on, with a strong electronics/hardware background and experience developing physical products with Chinese factories — working directly with factory engineers to review samples, solve problems and get products into production. The role covers both new product development and improving the existing range. Key Responsibilities Own the technical product roadmapReview and challenge supplier electronic designs, schematics and system architecturesValidate new product ideas through technical research, engineering analysis and testingWork with suppliers to push technical performance and innovationDrive continuous improvement of existing products through component optimisation and design changesTranslate research, technical papers and patents into engineering targets and product improvementsAnalyse customer feedback to identify improvement opportunitiesDefine product specifications and technical requirements for suppliersSupport marketing by translating technical capabilities into clear consumer benefits Experience & Skills Background in electronics, hardware engineering or technical product developmentAbility to understand and challenge engineering decisions, with a strong analytical mindsetExperience working with manufacturing partners or hardware suppliersAbility to translate technical research into product directionStrong experience developing products with Chinese OEM/ODM manufacturers, working directly with factory engineers About You You'll enjoy working between engineering and product leadership — comfortable discussing technical challenges with engineers while considering how products succeed in the consumer market, with a mindset geared towards curiosity, experimentation and continuous improvement.
