Senior Software Engineer, Design Systems

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Design Systems based in Canada. This role sits at the intersection of frontend engineering, design systems, and AI-assisted software development. You will help build a new design-to-code pipeline that connects design concepts, prototypes, and production frontend code. Working closely with Product Design, Developer Experience, and Frontend Infrastructure, you will shape workflows that help teams move from ideas to shipped products more efficiently. The position offers the opportunity to work on greenfield systems and emerging AI development technologies rather than maintaining an established process. You will also influence how engineers and designers adopt new tools through documentation, feedback, and hands-on enablement. It is a highly collaborative opportunity for an experienced frontend engineer interested in building developer-facing platforms and AI-powered workflows. Accountabilities Design and implement AI-assisted workflows that connect design tools, prototypes, and production frontend code using technologies such as Claude Code and Figma MCP.Partner closely with Product Design to develop patterns, components, and workflows that allow design work to translate effectively into production-ready software.Evolve the design system to support AI-assisted development through machine-readable documentation, component metadata, and integration with prototyping workflows.Collaborate with Developer Experience on AI agents and tooling foundations and with Frontend Infrastructure on the web platform, building on existing capabilities rather than duplicating them.Build and improve the infrastructure and workflows that enable product teams to move from early concepts through prototyping and into production.Engage directly with engineers and designers who use the systems you build, including through office hours, feedback collection, and prioritization of high-impact improvements.Research, prototype, and evaluate emerging AI development tools and provide informed recommendations about technologies that could be adopted and scaled.Contribute to a greenfield design-to-code platform and help define the engineering approaches, workflows, and systems that will support its evolution. Requirements 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong background in frontend engineering and production product development.Deep hands-on experience with modern web technologies, particularly TypeScript and React, along with the build, testing, and deployment tooling surrounding them.Demonstrated ability to think beyond individual product features and reason about developer tooling, engineering workflows, infrastructure, and platform-level systems.Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or comparable technologies, along with a thoughtful understanding of their capabilities, limitations, and potential for broader adoption.Experience building tools, systems, or infrastructure that are successfully adopted by engineers or other internal users, including consideration of onboarding, documentation, usability, and feedback loops.Design systems experience is beneficial but not required; strong frontend engineering and AI tooling expertise are the core capabilities for the role.Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with designers, product managers, Developer Experience, Frontend Infrastructure, and other engineering partners.Ability to evaluate emerging technologies critically and translate experimentation into practical recommendations and scalable engineering solutions.Strong ownership, systems thinking, and communication skills suited to working on a greenfield initiative with significant room to shape the technical direction.
