Title: Development Engineer Contract: 12 months fixed term  Location: Cambridge UK, office based Functional area: Product Development Reports to: Principal Engineer CN Bio Innovations (CN Bio) is a modern life sciences company delivering human-focused research and discovery, enabled by a unique and proven Organ-on-a-Chip platform. Role Description The Development Engineer role is a critical key part of a small, dynamic Product Development team. Working as part of the larger R&D group, you will help to develop and support CN Bio’s best in class Organ-on-a-Chip technology. You will support and enhance our existing portfolio of commercial products, helping to ensure they continue to deliver exceptional performance and value to customers, whilst also contributing to the development of next-generation technologies and novel product concepts that will shape the future of our company. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and working at the intersection of engineering and biology, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative ideas from concept through to commercial product release. In this role, you will contribute to commercial growth and product improvement by: Designing, developing and testing new Organ-on-a-Chip systems. Enhancing CN Bio’s existing product range of electromechanical hardware and precision polymer consumables.Supporting transfer to manufacture, product build activities and service activities. Generating and maintaining design documentation, engineering drawings and technical files. Developing and utilising test methods and apparatus Working within CN Bio's Quality Management System (QMS) and change control processes Following company high standards and H&S policies and contribute to safe working practices in laboratories and workshops. Plus other relevant duties in line with business needs Qualifications and Experience Essential Degree in a relevant engineering discipline, e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering. 2 years minimum professional experience in mechanical engineering role beyond academic research. Strong interest in development of complex systems for the support of complex biology. Able to plan and perform suitable tests for design verification. Confident analysing engineering test data and communicating conclusions clearly. Skilled in technical communication to internal and external stakeholders. Excellent problem-solving skills. Great teamwork skills and collaborative spirit. Well-organised and able to manage own work with minimal supervision. Desirable Professional experience gained in relevant industry, e.g. medical devices, diagnostics, laboratory instruments. Good knowledge and experience in computer-aided product design, preferably using Solidworks. Direct experience with microfluidic technologies. Understanding of design for manufacturing principles. Project management experience. Knowledge of tooling design for injection moulding. Familiarity with version control for design. Experience with electronics engineering.
