About the Client Our client is one of the largest banks in the world, with a major presence in capital markets, investment banking and corporate banking. They operate across North America, Europe and Asia, working with institutional investors, corporations and government entities. This role sits within the bank's Capital Markets Technology team in New York, supporting the Fixed Income business. The team works on a wide range of projects for Fixed Income and other business areas, many of them high profile and driven directly by the business. The Role We are looking for a Lead Java Developer to join the team onsite in New York. This is a senior, hands-on role. You will spend most of your time writing code, while also reviewing designs and code, working with the technical leads and architects on new solutions, and mentoring junior developers and analysts. Key responsibilities include: - Work on projects for Fixed Income and other business areas, based on what the business needs - Carry out hands-on development as an individual contributor, including writing unit tests and taking part in testing throughout the SDLC (DEV, UAT) - Join daily stand-ups following Agile/Scrum, working closely with TPMs and other members of the development team - Perform design and code reviews for ongoing projects - Follow the bank's coding and design standards, and comply with security and other internal requirements - Take part in change management processes, support production deployments and take responsibility for project delivery - Keep an eye on code quality, application health and security vulnerabilities, and look at new tools and libraries that could improve how the team works - Help maintain project documentation and operational runbooks - Propose new technical solutions, carry out proof-of-concepts (POCs), and work with technical leads and architects on technology evaluations - Improve application stability through monitoring, incident handling and platform upgrades - Mentor and coach junior software developers and analysts Key Skills Necessary: - 8+ years of hands-on experience developing enterprise applications in Java - 5+ years of experience with Spring and Spring Boot - Strong knowledge and practical experience of functional programming, threading/concurrency, collections, exception handling and core Java concepts - Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices - Experience developing and integrating distributed systems, including performance, security and error handling considerations - Ability to create high-level and low-level designs and workflow diagrams, and to take part in architecture and design reviews - Good understanding of SQL, relational data models and query optimisation - Good knowledge of networking and communication protocols such as HTTP/HTTPS, SSL/TLS and TCP/IP - Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git and build tools such as Maven - Strong communication skills, and comfortable working directly with business users - Ability to work with teams across different locations and time zones - Interest in using AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot or Claude in day-to-day development Nice to Have: - Experience with messaging platforms such as ActiveMQ (AMQ) or Kafka - Knowledge of financial markets and Fixed Income products - Angular development experience - Experience with cloud technologies (Azure preferred) and container platforms (OpenShift or similar) Next Steps This is a great opportunity to work on important Fixed Income technology at one of the world's largest banks, alongside experienced technology and business teams.
