Mechanical SME, Data Center Location: Chandler AZ / Houston TX / Conshohocken PA / Albany NY / Raleigh-Durham NC (hybrid) Salary: $200,000 to $230,000 per year plus 10 to 15% annual bonus Type: Full-time The role A specialist EPC firm with a strong data center and mission-critical facilities practice is hiring a Mechanical SME to sit at the top of its mechanical discipline across a hyperscale and colocation portfolio in the Americas. This is a senior leadership role combining deep technical authority with real commercial influence. You will be shaping how the firm wins and delivers complex data center projects, mentoring engineering teams, and acting as the credible mechanical voice of the practice in front of clients and prospects. If you have 10 or more years of mechanical engineering experience in data centers or mission-critical facilities and want an SME-level seat with both technical and business development responsibility, this is worth a conversation. What you will be doing Serve as the mechanical subject matter expert for data center projects across the Americas, applying deep knowledge of precision cooling, chilled water systems, HVAC, liquid cooling, and critical facility mechanical infrastructure Provide technical leadership across project programming, preliminary design, and construction document phases for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center projects Drive business development by identifying project delivery differentiators, developing value propositions, and providing pre-sales technical support for bids and proposals Coordinate proposal efforts including strategy, budget, and preliminary design to support competitive bids Introduce innovative approaches to data center mechanical design, particularly around high-density cooling and AI compute thermal management Train and mentor engineering staff on data center mechanical design, lessons learned, and best practices Maintain and develop client relationships to generate leads and support repeat business Work closely with client account managers and business development managers to position and develop projects across the Americas region Ensure designs are consistent with industry-accepted practice, leading-edge cooling technologies, and client-preferred standards Represent the firm in front of hyperscale and enterprise client audiences at senior level What we need from you Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Masters or PhD preferred10 or more years of mechanical engineering experience in data centers or mission-critical facilitiesStrong background in precision cooling, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH, and large-scale HVAC designFamiliarity with advanced cooling technologies including liquid cooling, direct liquid cooling, and immersion coolingStrong client-facing skills with experience presenting to internal and external stakeholders at senior levelDemonstrated ability to influence internal management and external clientsSelf-motivated and comfortable collaborating across remote offices and time zonesMust be authorised to work in the US; sponsorship is not available Good to have EPC services backgroundHyperscale or colocation campus design experienceExperience with high-density AI and GPU compute cooling at 50kW per rack and aboveASHRAE TC 9.9 familiarityPE license Compensation and benefits $200,000 to $230,000 per year DOE 10 to 15% annual bonus Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) Paid time off and holidays For more information please contact: matthew.holden@clear-er.com I place across the full range of data center design and construction roles.
