Position Summary As a Senior Software Engineer, you will join an innovative team building scalable cloud data solutions and AI-driven capabilities to improve health outcomes and drive digital transformation. In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy high-performance applications leveraging Azure cloud services, real-time data streaming with Kafka, large-scale data processing with Databricks and Delta Lake, and modern AI technologies including LLM embeddings, model fine-tuning, and developer assistance integrations (e.g., Codex, Claude). Primary Responsibilities Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions and enterprise-scale software to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible AI useLeverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate software engineering tasks, and drive continuous operational improvementEvaluate emerging AI trends and modern cloud architectures to inform solution design, continuous optimization, and strategic innovationBuild and maintain scalable real-time data streaming and processing pipelines using Apache Kafka, Azure Databricks, and Delta LakeDevelop, optimize, and maintain resilient backend services and database architectures using Java, Python, and Azure PostgreSQLImplement and fine-tune Large Language Models (LLMs), embeddings, and code generation/completion tools to solve business challengesImplement robust cloud storage solutions and design scalable data structures for analytical capabilitiesCollaborate with cross-functional technical teams, data engineers, and solution architects to deliver secure, reliable, and compliant enterprise software applications You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications 5+ years of professional software engineering experience developing enterprise applications using Java or Python3+ years of experience building and deploying cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure3+ years of experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MySQL or similar), including schema design and query optimization2+ years of hands-on experience with big data like Databricks or Delta Lake2+ years of hands-on experience with streaming platforms like Apache Kafka1+ years of experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), including fine-tuning models and integrating AI models into software applicationsDemonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools to enhance workflow efficiency and code quality Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)Hands-on experience integrating AI LLM models (e.g., OpenAI Codex, Anthropic Claude) into software workflows or enterprise applicationsExpertise in building real-time event-driven architectures and distributed data pipelinesExperience with CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and modern DevOps practices on AzureAzure technical certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer, or Azure AI Engineer)All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
