The Role As the Civil & Structural Engineering Technical Authority, you will: Define and maintain the civil design vision, design basis, engineering principles, requirements and acceptance criteria.Act as the Design Authority for the review and acceptance of civil and structural engineering outputs.Ensure integration between buildings, structures, groundworks, utilities, infrastructure, and fusion plant systems.Manage multidisciplinary interfaces and resolve technical conflicts across complex design boundaries.Establish governance, verification, validation, assurance and acceptance processes.Ensure compliance with CDM 2015, statutory requirements, industry standards, regulatory expectations and safety objectives.Support DCO progression, safety case development, regulatory submissions and construction readiness activities.Lead concept development, optioneering studies and technical trade-offs in areas of design uncertainty.Oversee technical risks, configuration control, design changes, concessions and non-conformances.Promote digital engineering, BIM, systems integration and robust technical-information management.Provide independent technical judgement while maintaining Design Authority assurance and conflict-management requirements. About You Essential Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional accreditation.Significant experience delivering civil and structural engineering leadership in highly regulated or safety-critical environments.Experience as a Technical Authority, Design Authority specialist, Independent Assessor, Intelligent Client Engineer, or similar assurance role.Strong knowledge of:Civil and structural engineering designDesign governance and design-basis managementVerification, validation and technical assuranceSystems integration and multidisciplinary interface managementTechnical risk, configuration and change controlPractical understanding of CDM 2015 and safe-by-design principles.Experience supporting safety cases, regulatory approvals, planning submissions, design maturity assessments or construction readiness reviews.Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Desirable Experience in fusion, nuclear, defence, energy, scientific facilities or first-of-a-kind programmes.Experience with safety-classified structures and seismic, extreme or accidental loading design considerations.Knowledge of DCO processes, regulatory engagement and design substantiation.Experience across concept, design, construction and handover phases.Familiarity with geotechnical engineering, drainage, highways, utilities and site-wide infrastructure.Experience with BIM, MBSE, digital engineering and requirements-management tools.Knowledge of UK and international civil and structural design codes and standards.
