The Role As the Geotechnical Technical Authority, you will: Define and maintain the site-wide geotechnical design basis, ground model, and engineering parameters.Lead geotechnical strategy for foundations, earthworks, excavations, ground improvement, and soil-structure interaction.Assess and manage key ground risks including liquefaction, settlement, bearing capacity, slope stability, and seismic performance.Provide technical leadership on geotechnical solutions for heavy, safety-significant fusion and infrastructure structures.Support seismic hazard assessments, blast analyses, and extreme loading evaluations.Ensure geotechnical risks are identified, mitigated, and demonstrably ALARP throughout the project lifecycle.Integrate geotechnical data, models, and assumptions into the digital engineering and digital twin environment.Support DCO submissions, regulatory engagement, environmental assessments, and nuclear safety case development.Provide assurance over work undertaken by delivery partners while maintaining independent technical judgement.Work closely with civil, structural, seismic, safety, construction, and systems engineering teams to ensure integrated, buildable solutions. About You Essential Degree-qualified in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline.Deep expertise in:Soil and rock mechanicsFoundation engineeringGround improvement techniquesEarthworks and excavation designSoil-structure interactionSeismic and extreme hazard assessmentsProven experience on major nuclear, defence, energy, infrastructure, or other highly regulated projects.Experience operating within a Design Authority, Intelligent Client, or similar technical assurance environment.Strong understanding of geotechnical risk management, safety case support, and regulatory compliance.Experience managing uncertainty, technical assurance, and multidisciplinary engineering interfaces.Strong digital engineering capability, including BIM, digital twins, and systems engineering approaches. Desirable Experience supporting DCO submissions and regulatory scrutiny.Knowledge of UK nuclear geotechnical standards and safety requirements.Experience with safety-classified structures and first-of-a-kind engineering programmes.Familiarity with long-term ground monitoring and verification strategies.Experience working in fusion, nuclear new-build, or complex scientific facilities.
