Lead Radio Systems (LMR) Engineer/Specialist

We are currently looking for an experienced and highly motivated Lead Radio Systems (LMR) Engineer/Specialist to join our Calgary team. The successful candidate will lead the planning, design and solutioning of mission-critical P25/TETRA and DMR radio systems for industrial and oil sands facilities. This is a hands-on technical leadership role offering the opportunity to take technical ownership of radio communication solutions, work directly with clients and OEM vendors, and contribute to engineering decisions throughout the project lifecycle. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include, but are not limited to: · Lead the technical planning, system architecture, design, and solution development of LMR systems, including P25 and TETRA trunked and conventional systems, upgrades, expansions, and migrations · Perform RF propagation and coverage studies (talk-in/talk-out, in-building) and assess results against applicable standards such as TIA TSB-88 · Perform link budget, interference and intermodulation analyses, and design and specify antenna systems and RF site equipment (combiners, multicouplers, duplexers and filters) · Prepare and review engineering documentation for radio systems and tower sites, including design criteria, specifications, SOWs, CWPs, RF coverage reports, design drawings, calculations, and BOMs, and review vendor engineering documentation for compliance with engineering standards and client specifications · Act as technical lead and primary technical interface with the client, OEM vendors and contractors · Develop, evaluate and present technical solutions and options, and provide clear engineering recommendations to clients and stakeholders · Provide technical support during procurement, technical bid evaluations, FAT/SAT, construction and commissioning, system integration, and troubleshooting · Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers, designers, and other engineering team members EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: · Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Telecommunications Engineering · Registered, or eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer with APEGA · Minimum 8 years of RF engineering experience, including at least 5 years of hands-on LMR system design experience and demonstrated technical leadership of LMR projects · Eligible to work in Canada SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE: · Demonstrated design experience with P25 (ASTRO 25 or equivalent) and/or TETRA systems · Experience with RF propagation and coverage modelling tools (e.g., Spectrum-E, Pathloss, ibWave, Atoll, WinProp ProMan, Ekahau or similar) · Strong understanding of RF system infrastructure design including repeaters, antennas, filters, combiners, multicouplers and duplexers · Knowledge of TIA TSB-88, CEC, CSA S37, Motorola R56 and other relevant industry standards · Understanding of IP networking fundamentals (addressing, VLANs, routing, QoS, MPLS) sufficient to communicate radio system requirements and interfaces to network engineering teams · Strong technical writing skills, with experience producing engineering deliverables for client review and approval · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot RF/LMR issues, manage competing priorities, and deliver quality engineering solutions under tight project schedules · Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders ASSETS: · Experience with DMR systems (e.g., MOTOTRBO) · Knowledge of other wireless technologies, including microwave, PTP/PTMP, LTE, Wi-Fi, satellite and wireless SCADA telemetry · Experience working on oil & gas, oil sands, mining, utilities, or heavy industrial projects · Experience with radio system migrations, upgrades, and cutovers in operational or mission-critical environments BENEFITS SUMMARY: Eligible employees will have access to: · Health, drug, dental, and vision plans · Group registered retirement savings plan with company matching · Life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance · Short-term/long-term disability plans · Emergency travel benefits · Professional membership fee coverage, and · Transportation allowance PRIMARY LOCATION: Canada, Alberta, Calgary ORGANIZATION: Engineering, reporting to Engineering Manager EMPLOYEE STATUS: Regular SCHEDULE: Full-time TRAVEL: Yes, less than 10% of the Time Novus provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified employees and applicants for future and current employment and prohibit discrimination on the grounds of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, genetic information, disability, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
