Network Engineer

Job Description : This role will serve as the primary on-site networking resource for the location and will work closely with global network engineering, infrastructure, security, site IT, vendors, and project teams. The contractor will provide hands-on support for network configuration, installation, migration, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational readiness. The environment includes Cisco LAN and Wireless, Aruba/Silver Peak SD-WAN, and Fortinet FortiGate firewalls. This is a highly hands-on assignment and requires regular on-site presence in Wuppertal, expected several days per week, particularly during implementation, migration, and stabilization activities. Key responsibilities and expected deliverables include: Support the design, configuration, installation, migration, and validation of site network infrastructure.Configure and troubleshoot Cisco LAN switching and wireless infrastructure.Configure, support, and troubleshoot Aruba/Silver Peak SD-WAN connectivity.Support Fortinet FortiGate firewall configuration, connectivity, and troubleshooting in coordination with enterprise security and network teams.Perform hands-on installation, cabling validation, equipment turn-up, testing, and troubleshooting at the Wuppertal site. Assist with migration of existing network services into Client standards and architecture.Coordinate network cutovers, implementation activities, maintenance windows, and post-migration stabilization.Troubleshoot LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, routing, switching, DNS/DHCP, and application connectivity issues. Validate network redundancy, resiliency, performance, and connectivity following implementation and migration activities.Work with carriers, vendors, local site teams, and global engineering resources to resolve infrastructure issues.Support incident resolution and serve as the local hands-on escalation resource for network-related issues.Maintain accurate physical and logical network documentation, including diagrams, device inventories, port assignments, circuits, IP addressing, and configuration information.Ensure implementations align with Client network standards, security requirements, and change-management processes. Identify infrastructure risks, technical gaps, and remediation requirements during the site transition. Provide knowledge transfer and documentation to operational support teams prior to project completion.Provide ongoing site network support during the transition and stabilization period. Maintain regular on-site presence in Wuppertal, Germany, several days per week as required by project activities.Key Skills: Strong hands-on enterprise network engineering and troubleshooting experience.Cisco LAN switching and enterprise wireless technologies.Routing and switching, including VLANs, trunking, STP, TCP/IP, routing protocols, and network segmentation.Aruba EdgeConnect / Silver Peak SD-WAN configuration and troubleshooting.Fortinet FortiGate firewall configuration and troubleshooting.Enterprise WAN and Internet connectivity.Network migration, site integration, and infrastructure deployment experience.Hands-on network hardware installation, turn-up, testing, and troubleshooting.Wireless troubleshooting, access point deployment, and site connectivity validation.Strong understanding of high availability, redundancy, resiliency, and network performance.Experience troubleshooting complex connectivity issues across LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, and application environments.Network monitoring, diagnostics, packet analysis, and performance troubleshooting.Experience creating and maintaining logical/physical network diagrams and technical documentation.Experience working within enterprise change-management and security-control processes.Ability to coordinate effectively with global engineering teams, local IT, carriers, vendors, and project managers.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently as the primary on-site network engineering resource.
