Job Description Role: Lead Naval ArchitectWork location: Rotterdam area, the Netherlands – hybrid, three days in the officeStart: ASAPDuration: One year, with the intention of continuing permanentlyContract: Employment contractLanguage: English; Dutch is an advantageFocus: Concept and basic design of specialist vessels, multidisciplinary engineering leadership, planning and budget control As Lead Naval Architect, you will manage the concept and basic design of vessels for offshore, renewable energy, dredging, mining, salvage and decommissioning projects. You will bring naval architects, structural engineers, marine systems engineers and designers together while managing technical progress, planning and budgets. The role offers a hybrid arrangement in an international, English-speaking setting. Dutch is appreciated but is not required, and relocation support is available if you are moving to the Netherlands. Where You’ll Work You will join a maritime engineering team designing custom newbuilds and conversions. Projects vary in vessel type and technical requirements, from hull performance and stability to the integration of offshore equipment and marine systems. Engineering work is developed for approval by classification societies such as DNV, Bureau Veritas and Lloyd’s Register. What You’ll Do Provide technical input during the commercial phase, translating client requests into design concepts, estimates and proposals.Agree the project team with the department managers and establish the engineering plan and budget.Lead engineers and designers in naval architecture, structures, marine systems and 2D/3D design.Oversee vessel layouts, stability, weight and hydrodynamic calculations, and the optimisation of hull and ship structures.Coordinate the integration of offshore equipment and marine systems, taking vessel workability into account.Monitor engineering progress, planning and budgets, and discuss developments with clients and the department manager.Coordinate engineering submissions and technical discussions with classification societies. Profile What You Bring A master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Maritime Engineering or a comparable discipline.At least 10 years of engineering experience in the maritime industry.Experience with concept and basic design, FEA analysis and 2D/3D modelling.Knowledge of classification rules, approval processes and relevant maritime regulations.Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering work and communicating with clients and technical stakeholders.Good written and spoken English. Dutch language skills would be an advantage. What’s In It For You?
