About The Role We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Python and Go Engineer to join a critical project supporting a major public-sector technology portfolio. This role is pivotal in enhancing and maintaining a large-scale platform that manages UK immigration, visa, passport, and related services. The successful candidate will be part of the Platform DevOps team, focusing on backend development, automation tooling, microservices, APIs, and cloud integrations. You will work within an agile environment, collaborating closely with multiple development teams and cloud service providers to deliver secure, efficient, and scalable solutions. This position requires active SC clearance, as it involves sensitive government data and infrastructure, and only candidates holding current clearance and meeting nationality requirements will be considered. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive background in software development, particularly with Python and Go, along with experience working within AWS cloud environments. Active SC clearance is mandatory, and candidates must meet the necessary nationality requirements. Strong knowledge of modern Python features, including asyncio, type hints, and context managers, is essential. Experience in building backend systems, automation tools, microservices, and REST APIs is required. Additionally, familiarity with Go development, including concurrent applications, CLI tools, and error handling, is necessary. Candidates should have hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda, as well as infrastructure automation and resource management skills. Knowledge of enterprise directories like OpenLDAP and Active Directory, along with HashiCorp Vault for secrets management, is highly desirable. Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, and testing frameworks for both Python and Go is also essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Responsibilities Develop and maintain backend services, automation tools, microservices, and APIs using Python to support platform functionalities.Build efficient, scalable, and concurrent applications and command-line tools with Go, ensuring high performance and reliability.Integrate applications with AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda using boto3 and aws-sdk-go-v2 libraries.Automate cloud resource provisioning and infrastructure management to optimize operational efficiency.Manage IAM roles, credentials, and secure service integrations to uphold security standards.Integrate with enterprise directories like OpenLDAP and Active Directory to facilitate authentication and authorization processes.Automate secret and token management workflows using HashiCorp Vault, ensuring secure handling of sensitive data.Automate workflows related to ticketing systems and documentation platforms, including JIRA and Confluence, to streamline operational processes.Utilize the Kubernetes API to automate deployment processes, manage pods, and monitor cluster health and status.Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests for Python and Go solutions, ensuring code quality and reliability.Incorporate testing, code linters, and quality checks into CI/CD pipelines to maintain high standards of code integrity.Participate in version control activities, including branching, code reviews, and release management using Git.Share knowledge and best practices with team members, contributing to the overall capability and continuous improvement of the delivery team. Benefits This position offers a remote contract opportunity supporting a vital public-sector technology platform. The role provides a competitive daily rate of up to 617.55 via UMB and is initially contracted for six months, with the possibility of extension. The contract is inside IR35, ensuring compliance with UK tax regulations.
