Software Engineer – Defence technology – Lancaster, UK An innovative engineering company specialising in advanced technology within the defence sector is seeking several Software Engineers to join its multidisciplinary engineering team. This is an opportunity to develop robust software for complex navigation systems, working across machine vision, sensor integration and data processing in demanding environments. What you'll do as a Software Engineer: Develop and maintain robust, reusable software components for complex engineering systems.Write clear, well-structured and maintainable code using appropriate programming languages and frameworks.Contribute to rapid development and iteration cycles while maintaining high standards of software quality.Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on software design, code reviews and technical decisions.Debug, profile and optimise software within complex and performance-sensitive systems.Document software designs, interfaces, assumptions and technical decisions.Adapt to new technologies, tools and frameworks as project requirements evolve. What you'll bring as a Software Engineer: Strong programming skills in Python, C# or Vue.js.Experience developing structured software for complex systems, including hands-on object-oriented programming.Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including modular design, interfaces, separation of concerns, version control, debugging and testing.Ability to work collaboratively within a team-based development environment.Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Familiarity with multithreaded, real-time or performance-sensitive systems.Experience developing hardware-adjacent software involving sensors and external data sources.
