Site Reliability Engineering Manager

Manager, Site Reliability Engineer (Hybrid in South San Francisco) About The Role We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Manager to lead our Site Operations and infrastructure initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, security, and performance of our cloud infrastructure and critical applications. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with leadership experience and a passion for operational excellence. You will lead efforts across cloud infrastructure, observability, automation, networking, and platform reliability while partnering closely with engineering and product teams to support business-critical applications. Responsibilities Lead and manage the Site Operations / SRE functionOwn cloud infrastructure architecture, operations, scalability, and optimizationEnsure high availability and reliability of production applications and servicesDrive operational excellence through automation, monitoring, and incident managementDevelop and maintain observability platforms including logging, metrics, alerting, and tracingManage Kubernetes-based infrastructure and container orchestration environmentsOversee networking, DNS, CDN, and storage infrastructure across cloud environmentsCollaborate with software engineering teams to improve deployment processes, system resilience, and performanceEstablish and improve CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practicesLead incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident remediation effortsManage vendor and platform relationships where applicableMentor and develop SRE / Site Operations engineers and foster a culture of reliability and continuous improvementDefine and implement infrastructure security and compliance best practices Required Qualifications 5–7+ years of experience in Site Operations, Site Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or related operational rolesPrior experience leading or mentoring engineering or operations teamsStrong hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP)Experience managing Kubernetes (K8s) environments in productionStrong understanding of networking concepts including DNS, load balancing, firewalls, routing, and CDN technologiesExperience with Akamai CDN administration and optimizationExperience with observability and monitoring platforms, including SplunkExperience with storage infrastructure and cloud-native storage solutionsStrong scripting and automation experience (Python, Bash, Terraform, or similar)Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelinesStrong troubleshooting and incident management skills in complex distributed systemsExcellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills Preferred Qualifications Experience managing hybrid or multi-cloud environmentsExperience with infrastructure-as-code and GitOps methodologiesFamiliarity with security best practices and compliance frameworksExperience supporting highly available enterprise or SaaS platformsStrong understanding of container security and cloud-native architectures About Twist Bioscience Twist Bioscience synthesizes genes from scratch, known as “writing” DNA. The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above.
