Senior Django Developer

6 months, with possible extensionHybrid role based in Central Sydney Data#3 is seeking an experienced Senior Django Developer to lead the technical delivery of an application modernisation project within a large, complex organisation. The project will retire an ageing legacy application that has become a supportability and security risk and consolidate its remaining functionality into an existing Django platform. Rather than building another standalone system, the platform will be extended to securely support multiple business areas, reducing application sprawl and setting it up for broader use over time. This is a genuinely hands-on role. You'll take the existing codebase, assess what's there, design the changes and build them, then see them through testing, deployment, go-live and handover. You'll work closely with business stakeholders, project leads and internal technical teams, so strong communication matters as much as strong code. Key responsibilities: Review business and technical requirements, assess the existing solution and identify gaps, risks, dependencies and implementation considerationsProduce technical designs covering application components, data structures, interfaces, security controls and alignment with organisational standardsConfigure existing functionality and develop approved enhancements to agreed coding, security and accessibility standardsBuild and support system interfaces, including data mappings, validation, error handling, reconciliation and integration testingSupport data migration, transformation, validation and reconciliation while maintaining data quality, integrity, privacy and securityApply secure development practices, support technical governance assessments and remediate in-scope security or compliance findingsPrepare and execute technical testing, support UAT, resolve defects and provide test evidenceSupport deployments across environments, including deployment, configuration and rollback instructions aligned to release processesSupport application environments, configuration settings and deployment pipelinesDiagnose and resolve defects and incidents within agreed timeframes, with root-cause analysis for significant issuesMaintain technical designs, configuration details, interface specifications, operational procedures and troubleshooting documentationTransfer knowledge to internal teams through documentation, walkthroughs and trainingSupport go-live, stabilisation, hypercare, lessons learned and transition to BAU Skills and experience: Strong, hands-on Django experience across design, development, integration, testing and support of production applications (this is the key requirement)Solid Python engineering backgroundComfortable working in Linux environmentsExperience using Docker for local developmentYou've designed and built, not just maintained, and can explain the decisions behind your workConfident working independently and communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders Interested candidates that meet the required skillset of the role are encouraged to apply via the link with an updated resume.
