Senior Manager, QA Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, QA Engineering based in Germany. This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity focused on defining and scaling quality across a complex enterprise software platform. You’ll own the end-to-end QA strategy, establish quality gates, and use meaningful metrics to influence release and roadmap decisions. The role combines strategic leadership with enough technical depth to remain connected to hands-on quality engineering. You’ll lead multiple QA teams and evolve their structure as the organization scales. The position also requires close collaboration across engineering, product, UX, documentation, and field teams to establish shared quality standards. You’ll work in a global, remote environment with a strong focus on reliability, performance, automation, and continuous improvement. Accountabilities Own and drive the end-to-end QA strategy, establishing quality gates, standards, processes, and cross-team accountability. Lead and scale two QA teams spanning functional and reliability engineering, including managers, a principal engineer, and individual contributors. Evolve the QA organization and operating model to support growth, improve effectiveness, and maximize engineering impact. Partner with senior and principal engineering leadership to strengthen reliability, performance, resilience, and high-load testing practices. Guide automation strategy and quality processes that enable engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-quality outcomes efficiently. Establish comprehensive quality coverage across business users, developers, and administrators/operators in Kubernetes, cloud, and bare-metal environments. Develop actionable quality metrics, dashboards, and reporting that provide leadership with data-driven insights for roadmap, release, and quality decisions. Collaborate with engineering, product, UX, documentation, and field teams to embed quality throughout the product development lifecycle. Stay connected to hands-on QA execution and technical challenges while providing strategic direction and organizational leadership. Drive continuous improvement and cultural change across QA practices, processes, automation, reliability, and engineering quality. Requirements Proven experience leading QA or quality engineering functions within engineering organizations of approximately 100–500 employees, with demonstrable organizational and quality impact. Strong experience defining and implementing end-to-end QA strategies, quality gates, testing standards, and data-informed quality decision-making across multiple teams. Demonstrated leadership experience managing managers, senior technical specialists, principal-level engineers, and individual contributors. Experience scaling QA organizations and developing structures, processes, and operating models that support business and engineering growth. Strong technical understanding of complex enterprise software products, including functional testing, automation, reliability, performance, resilience, and high-load testing. Experience covering multiple product personas, including developers, business users, and technical administrators or operators. Ability to work across Kubernetes, cloud, microservices, and related operational environments. Strong understanding of automation and CI/CD-integrated testing practices; experience with tools such as Playwright or TestRail is advantageous. Experience with chaos engineering, advanced reliability testing, or performance benchmarking is a plus. Ability to influence engineering, product, UX, documentation, and customer-facing teams around shared quality objectives. Strong communication, stakeholder management, strategic thinking, and organizational leadership skills. Comfortable balancing long-term QA strategy with practical involvement in technical execution. Experience in enterprise software, workflow automation, or similarly complex technical products is highly relevant. Ability and willingness to use the product as part of the role.
