Senior Android Engineer / Lead Android Engineer

The Role This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced Android Engineers to join ABC Digital Product and help shape the applications Australians use to access ABC content across mobile and connected TV. We have two opportunities 1 x Senior Engineer & 1x Lead Engineer to work across the ABC’s Android and Android TV applications. You’ll work hands-on with Kotlin and modern Android technologies, shaping architecture and technical roadmaps while driving quality, performance and engineering best practice. Our Lead Engineer will also have broader responsibility for people leadership, delivery and the long-term technical direction of the team. Key Accountabilities Lead the design, development and maintenance of ABC Android and Android TV applicationsBuild scalable, complex, secure, accessible and highly performant applications using Kotlin and Jetpack ComposeDefine and contribute to long-term technical roadmaps, architecture and mobile engineering strategyDesign and develop reusable components and functionality across ABC mobile productsDevelop comprehensive unit, integration and end-to-end automated testingWork across the mobile release lifecycle including CI/CD, automation pipelines and production monitoringIdentify, triage and resolve complex production issues while continually improving system reliabilityDrive improvements across performance, security, accessibility and development standardsProvide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to engineers For the Lead role, manage engineers responsible for solution design, development and testing while supporting coaching, succession planning, capability growth and retention For the Lead role, coordinate delivery across the team and influence strategic technical decisions across broader Digital Product About You You’ll bring: Highly advanced Android development experience, ideally demonstrated through public-facing applications written in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.Significant experience building scalable, secure, accessible and high-performing mobile applicationsDeep knowledge of modern Android frameworks, architecture and development toolsExtensive automated testing experience across unit, integration and end-to-end testingStrong experience with mobile CI/CD, release automation and production monitoringDemonstrated technical leadership and the ability to influence engineering directionStrong communication skills and experience working across technical and non-technical stakeholder groupsStrong organisational capability with experience coordinating complex multi-person delivery For the Lead role, demonstrated experience managing technical teams and providing strategic direction For the Lead role, significant experience coaching, mentoring and developing highly technical engineers For the Lead role, strong strategic thinking and the ability to influence stakeholders and drive engineering outcomes What’s in it for you?
