Senior Controls Engineer

Working across a diverse range of projects — including data centres, healthcare and commercial/industrial buildings — our senior controls engineers play a key role in designing, integrating and optimising control systems to enhance building performance and drive our building automation initiatives forward. The Opportunity While this role is focused on enabling delivery of our current project pipeline, as a senior engineer, you would be expected to build client relationships through technical excellence in your project delivery and contribute to proposal writing to secure future pipeline for the Building Management System team. You will also have the opportunity to drive innovation in building automation, IoT integration, and energy-efficient control strategies, shaping the future of intelligent building systems at Arup. Your Key Responsibilities Will Include Designing BMS/building controls systems to optimize building performance and streamline building management — including applications in commercial, industrial and data centre environments — working collaboratively with MEP and ICT disciplines to ensure fully integrated control solutions responsive to the design requirements of each interfacing system.Ensuring seamless integration of BMS, SCADA/EPMS, and HVAC control systems into overall building design, with consideration of redundancy and resiliency for data centres and other critical infrastructure where required.Conducting design studies and producing conceptual design reports; preparing contract documentation, specifications and drawings; conducting site inspections and Factory Acceptance Testing; and witnessing control system commissioning to ensure proper execution and alignment with design, including System Architecture and Functional Description.Leading the design and implementation of control systems for various applications, including building automation, and developing comprehensive control logic incorporating innovative and efficient solutions.Leading stakeholder identification and engagement — crafting stakeholder engagement plans, implementing effective communication strategies, and leading meetings, workshops and consultations to convey project objectives, progress and impacts. You hold a recognized relevant tertiary qualification in controls, mechatronics, building services, mechanical or electrical engineering, or a similar field;7+ years' relevant experience designing and/or implementing building control systems preferably within a consulting business environment; You hold or are actively working towards chartered engineer status.You have demonstrated experience delivering BMS, SCADA/EPMS and HVAC control system design across sectors such as data centres, healthcare, commercial, transport infrastructure and critical infrastructure environments.You have good awareness of market offerings including products with advanced programming and novel solutions, and proficiency in software tools commonly used in the building services design sector, including MS Visio, AutoCAD and Revit.You have the ability to communicate clearly and adapt your interpersonal style to connect with diverse stakeholders, fostering open dialogue and collaboration, and the ability to tackle challenges strategically — identifying root causes and exploring innovative solutions with a critical mindset.
