Engineering Studies Team Leader - Mine Closure

My client is a specialist Australian mine closure consultancy working across the full closure picture - planning, cost estimation, landform design, mine waste, technical studies and closure execution. They are looking for a Team Leader for their Engineering Studies Group, based in Perth. (Brisbane would also be considered for the right person.) The current group lead is staying with the business and moving into a more specialist technical role, so this is a proper handover rather than being dropped in the deep end. The role The Engineering Studies team covers closure cost estimation, technical modelling and conceptual design. The modellers are strong - landform evolution, cover systems, surface water - but they need someone who can sit between that work and the client. That means looking at a site, working out where the real risks are, deciding what needs modelling and why, supporting the specialists, then turning the results into advice a client can actually use. It is roughly 40% running the group and 60% chargeable project work. You will lead a team of six, scope the studies, review reports, manage budgets and handle the client conversations. Occasional site visits. What you must have 8+ years in consultancy across mine closure, landform design, geotechnical, water or environmental engineeringDegree in environmental, civil or geotechnical engineering, or environmental science, hydrology or hydrogeologyExperience leading technical staff - whether that is a formal team, or mentoring and running project teams and now wanting the step upEnough modelling background to scope a study, challenge assumptions and explain the results to a client in plain terms Useful, but not essential Closure cost estimationLandform evolution, cover systems, unsaturated flow or surface water modelling - the team uses Siberia, SEEP/W, PCSWMM and HEC-RAS, but you will not need all of themRunning multidisciplinary or PFS / FS style studies You do not need to be the deepest technical person in the room. You need enough modelling background to understand how the work is done, manage assumptions properly and know when something needs revisiting.
