Title: Generative AI Engineer (Lead) Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia – Hybrid Work Type: Contract – Hybrid Experience: 8+ years Role Purpose We are looking for a Technology Lead – Generative AI & Application Security to build an AI/agentic layer on top of SAST/SCA capabilities. The role will focus on designing and developing custom AI-powered automation using OpenAI or equivalent LLM APIs and agentic patterns to reduce security triage effort, minimize false-positive noise, and accelerate vulnerability remediation. GitLab's native Duo/agentic features are out of scope. This role will be responsible for developing custom AI automation and integrations around GitLab security capabilities. Must-Have Skills: Generative AI / LLM Engineering Application Security (AppSec) DevSecOps Hands-on experience with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or equivalent Experience with function calling, tool use, structured outputs, and context management Production experience designing and building agentic AI systems Strong software engineering and integration development skills Experience with GitLab APIs and webhooks Understanding of SAST, SCA, CVE, CWE, and vulnerability severity Prompt engineering and LLM evaluation methodologies Knowledge of AI data governance, privacy, and security 8+ years of software/AI engineering experience At least 1–2 years of hands-on experience building production LLM-based or agentic systems
