Freelance Frontend Developer

Sans Serif (sansserif.com), a Northern California-based creative agency, is seeking a mid-level freelance frontend developer for remote contract work. We're looking for someone with hands-on experience building custom WordPress sites, HTML emails, and general frontend features who can flex between ongoing overflow support and defined project work. Hours vary with project load. This developer works from defined specs and requirements, collaborating closely with our technical lead. Precise, pixel-accurate implementation of designs is important, as is the ability to context-switch across email, WordPress, and general web projects without losing quality. Due to the geographic distribution of our team, candidates in US time zones are prioritized. Key Responsibilities Translate Figma designs into responsive, semantic, accessible frontend codeBuild new frontend features on existing websitesBuild and maintain custom WordPress themes/functionality to agreed specsBuild individual HTML emails from existing templates, with occasional template-building work from design files as neededCheck finished work against design files for visual and interaction accuracy, and support general testing/QA across projectsTroubleshoot and resolve frontend and CMS-level bugsPerform ongoing updates and maintenance for CMS-driven sitesCommunicate clearly on task status and any blockers Accountability Collaborate with our technical lead on scope and approach, and deliver work to agreed specsProvide regular updates on task/project statusDeliver code that aligns with our coding standards, so it's easy for teammates to read, maintain, and build onWork within defined hours/budgets, with clear time tracking and timely invoicing Requirements Proficient in semantic HTML5, CSS3/SCSS/Tailwind, and JavaScript, with responsive, mobile-first development and working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standardsStrong attention to visual detail when translating designs to codeUnderstanding of web performance and cross-browser compatibilityComfortable with custom WordPress theme development, including custom Gutenberg blocks built with ACF Blocks, and working knowledge of PHPExperience building and troubleshooting HTML emails across clients, including dark mode and full Outlook support (classic desktop, new Outlook, and web), using email testing tools; experience building email templates from scratch a plusFamiliarity with Figma and design handoff workflowsVersion control experience (Git)Comfortable with site deployments and working in server environments via SFTP and SSHProactive communicator, able to flag questions before small gaps become blockersAdaptable across project types without losing precision Pay scale $80–$100/hour How to Apply Submit your resume and, if available, a few links to relevant work (WordPress sites, HTML emails, or code samples) through this site.
