Senior BI Engineer - 12-month contract Your new company A leading Australian enterprise is investing in the ongoing enhancement and support of its enterprise reporting and data warehousing capability. Supporting a large and complex operational environment, the organisation relies on critical business intelligence solutions to drive reporting, regulatory obligations, operational insights, and strategic decision-making. As part of a highly experienced technology team, you will work across a mature BI ecosystem, ensuring the stability, optimisation, and continuous improvement of enterprise data warehouse and reporting platforms that support key business functions. Your new role As a Senior Data Engineer (BI & Reporting), you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise data warehouse and reporting solutions across a predominantly on-premise Microsoft technology stack. This role will focus heavily on SQL Server development, ETL processes, data warehousing, BI reporting, and production support. Working closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and technology teams, you will ensure reliable delivery of trusted reporting and data solutions that enable operational and strategic decision-making across the organisation. Key responsibilities include: Designing, developing, and supporting enterprise data warehouse and reporting solutions.Developing and maintaining SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, functions, and complex queries.Building and supporting ETL processes using SSIS and related data integration technologies.Maintaining and optimising existing reporting environments including SSRS, Power BI Report Server, and legacy BI platforms.Supporting enterprise reporting requirements across operational, financial, compliance, and management reporting functions.Enhancing data quality, data integrity, and performance across existing data warehouse environments.Working with business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate them into technical solutions.Troubleshooting data-related issues and resolving production incidents within agreed service levels.Performing root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures to improve platform stability.Supporting system upgrades, platform enhancements, and migration initiatives.Maintaining technical documentation, support procedures, and knowledge repositories.Participating in Agile and traditional project delivery methodologies. What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will bring strong experience within traditional data warehousing, BI reporting, and SQL Server environments. You will demonstrate experience with: Extensive experience developing and supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments.Strong SQL development skills including query tuning, performance optimisation, stored procedures, views, triggers, and database design.Hands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL development and data movement.Experience supporting SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and operational reporting environments.Strong understanding of enterprise data warehousing principles, dimensional modelling, Star Schema, and Kimball methodologies.Experience working with legacy BI and reporting platforms such as SAP BusinessObjects, Cognos, Crystal Reports, MicroStrategy, or similar technologies.Experience supporting on-premise data warehouse and reporting solutions within large enterprise environments.Strong troubleshooting and production support capabilities including incident management and root cause analysis.Experience with Windows Server, SQL Server administration fundamentals, and batch processing environments.Exposure to scripting technologies including PowerShell, Windows Batch Scripting, or Unix Shell Scripting.Experience working with large datasets and complex reporting environments.Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business teams.Experience working within regulated or highly governed enterprise environments will be highly regarded. Desirable Experience Exposure to Power BI, Power BI Report Server, or modern reporting tools.Experience supporting hybrid environments transitioning from legacy platforms to cloud-based technologies.Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, Databricks, or AWS would be beneficial but not essential.Experience within Financial Services, Insurance, Utilities, Telecommunications, or other large enterprise environments.
