The Federal Civilian business unit supports many customers spanning the federal, commercial, and nonprofit space. Our customers include NASA, the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Library of Congress, Health & Human Services, and the FDIC. Primary Responsibilities Senior Software Engineer - Front End/ Back End serves as an experienced individual contributor within a team, with the expectation that you will further develop your leadership, guidance and mentoring skills. With minimal oversight from leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the goal of meeting scope, schedule and delivery requirements. A Senior Software Engineer - Front End/ Back End impacts the long-term goals of the program, while contributing to the implementation of the program’s development strategy. You may serve as the discipline's primary lead when working with stakeholders and utilize strong influential skills to drive improvements in software engineering processes and practices. Primary expectations of a Senior Software Engineer - Front End/ Back End include: Demonstrate technical expertise, accountability, and ownership of contributions to the application codebase.Maintain a strong understanding of adjacent technical areas, systems, and ecosystems to effectively coordinate integrations and dependencies.Design, develop, test, maintain, and improve high-quality software solutions across front-end and/or back-end systems.Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues within owned systems, using incidents and lessons learned to identify opportunities for system and process improvements.Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers in developing their technical and problem-solving skills.Clearly communicate technical concepts, issues, risks, and developments to team members, clients, and stakeholders.Participate in technical interviews and help evaluate engineering candidates.Use strong technical judgment and influencing skills to propose, evaluate, and recommend approaches to technical and process challenges.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers within the team.Lead small projects, technical initiatives, or temporary team structures as needed.Develop and present design documents, system diagrams, technical recommendations, and other engineering artifacts to clients, stakeholders, partners, and fellow engineers. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.Relevant professional experience may be substituted for education where permitted.Demonstrated expert-level knowledge in at least one technical discipline, including front-end, back-end, full-stack, or infrastructure engineering.Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining production software applications.Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and contributing to scalable, maintainable software solutions.Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.Experience providing technical guidance, mentorship, or peer support to other engineers.Must meet any applicable contractual or labor category requirements related to education and professional experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience working across both front-end and back-end technologies in a full-stack environment.Experience designing, building, and maintaining modern web applications and APIs.Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.Experience with back-end technologies such as Java, Python, Node.js, or similar languages and frameworks.Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software development practices.Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments.Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical guidance within a development team.Experience collaborating directly with clients, product teams, designers, and other technical stakeholders.Experience supporting government or federal programs.Familiarity with accessibility, security, performance, and scalable application design practices. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
