AI Design Engineer

This is a design role with no handoffs. You'll take a rough product idea, turn it into a working prototype, and ship it in the app yourself, often in the same week. You'll decide how Superpose looks, feels, and shoots, from core UI to the AI-generated imagery that makes the product feel magical. You'll work closely with our Full-Stack Engineer (iOS). You own the experience and they own the systems behind it. You'll both write SwiftUI, so ideas move from sketch to TestFlight without waiting on anyone. What you'll doOwn product design end to end: flows, interaction design, visual design, motion, and the design system for our iOS app.Prototype in code and ship it. Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) to build prototypes in SwiftUI and take the good ones into production.Direct the AI's aesthetic. Write and refine prompts and creative workflows for the image and video experiences in the product. Set the bar for what "beautiful" means at Superpose.Anticipate what users will love. Talk to users, watch how they shoot, and turn what you learn into design. Often that means spotting what they want before they can put it into words.Keep the work organized. Turn fuzzy ideas into clear specs, set priorities, and keep projects moving as plans change, which in a startup is every week.Help wherever needed: marketing visuals, App Store assets, launch content, user research. On a small team, everyone does some of everything. What you need5+ years of professional experience in product design, design engineering, or a closely related field, including time on a team shipping consumer products.A portfolio of polished consumer product work (mobile strongly preferred) that shows your taste and judgment.Hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar) to build and ship real things, not just Figma files.Hands-on experience with generative image or video tools and a real skill for prompting them into on-brand, high-quality output.A strong, clear aesthetic point of view that you can explain and defend, while staying open to data and feedback.Strong organization and project management skills. You can run your own roadmap when things are messy.A love of photography. You shoot, you notice light, and you care about the moment a great photo happens.You live within commuting distance of Los Gatos and can work on-site 3–4 days a week. Bonus pointsYou've built workflows in ComfyUI, or worked with LoRAs, ControlNet, or custom image/video pipelines.You have camera, photo, video, or creator-tool product experience.You've started something: a company, a side project with real users, or a creative practice with an audience. Where you'll workThis role is in person 3–4 days a week at our office in Los Gatos, CA. We build side by side, and that's a big part of how we move fast. You must live within commuting distance of Los Gatos (or be relocating before your start date) and be authorized to work in the U.S. We are not considering remote candidates, and we don't work with agencies, staffing firms, or dev shops.
