Director of Application Development Services

Job Title: Director, Application Development Services Location: Newport News, VA Employment Type: Full-time About the Opportunity Rockwoods is looking for a Director, Application Development Services for our client, a leading credit union. The Director will be responsible for leading the strategy, development, and delivery of enterprise-wide software solutions. The ideal candidate will lead a high-performing team of Application Developers and Salesforce Administrators, mentor senior technical leaders, and collaborate closely with business and IT stakeholders. The role will focus on delivering secure, scalable, and high-quality applications while ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with overall business objectives. What You'll Do Set the strategic direction for application development services, aligned to organizational goalsOversee the full application lifecycle: design, architecture, development, testing, and deploymentLead, mentor, and develop a team of Application Developers and Salesforce AdministratorsDefine technical standards and best practices, including Test Driven Development (TDD) and version controlDrive integration of business-critical systems, including data migration and system-to-system communicationGuide architecture decisions for scalable, secure, and efficient solutions using C#, Python, JavaScript, and other languages and frameworksImplement DevSecOps practices and automated CI/CD pipelinesEnsure compliance with application security standards and industry best practicesOversee UAT and QA processes for every releaseEvaluate and adopt new technologies to improve performance and functionality What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus 8+ years of software engineering or application development experience (or 12+ years of equivalent professional experience)3+ years of supervisory experience managing Software Engineers and/or Application Developers, with a record of delivering projects against scheduled milestonesTraining or coursework in ASP.NET, C#, JavaScript, SQL, and/or JavaHands-on experience with modern DevSecOps tools (e.g., Atlassian JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, Bitbucket)Preferred: experience adapting various APIs for custom applications
