Senior Geologist

Join us as a Senior Geologist in Townsville and support the sustainable development of Queensland’s mineral and coal resources. You will undertake technical assessments of mining and exploration tenure applications, provide expert advice, contribute to policy development and build productive relationships with industry, government and community stakeholders. The Georesources division capitalises on Queensland’s minerals, coal, petroleum and gas resources. Mining is the number one wealth generating sector in the state and the work done in this division plays a key role in regulating the resources sector, while also supporting industry development and sector growth. GEO #DeliveringforQueensland! As a Senior Geologist, you will contribute to the sustainable exploration and development of Queensland's mineral and coal resources. Based in Townsville within Georesources Delivery, you will provide technical assessment and advice on mining and exploration tenure applications and support informed decision-making across the resources sector. In this role, you will assess mining, exploration and development tenures in accordance with legislation, policies and departmental procedures. You will facilitate the progression of applications through engagement with industry, tenure holders and government agencies, provide technical support to commodity hubs and prepare reports, briefings, submissions and correspondence for a range of stakeholders, including senior executives and the Minister. You will also contribute to resource protection activities, identify potential resource areas, support policy development and represent the department in meetings, workshops and industry forums. Success in this role will come from your strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to communicate technical information clearly and capacity to manage competing priorities while delivering quality outcomes. You will build productive stakeholder relationships and provide sound, evidence-based advice on complex resource matters.
