Factory Test Infrastructure Engineer

Calgary, AB Introduction Brunel is seeking a Factory Test Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, development, installation, and commissioning of advanced manufacturing test infrastructure. This role is responsible for delivering scalable and reliable testing environments that support production, product validation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with engineering teams, contractors, equipment suppliers, and manufacturing stakeholders, the successful candidate will lead infrastructure projects involving fluid systems, high-power electrical applications, automation controls, instrumentation, and industrial utility systems. Responsibilities Design and develop factory test infrastructure, including piping systems, fluid distribution networks, high-power electrical systems, and automation controls. Support the development of large-scale, high-flow, and high-pressure test systems incorporating pumps, valves, heat exchangers, instrumentation, and control equipment. Develop, review, and maintain equipment layouts, piping drawings, P&IDs, and infrastructure documentation. Define technical specifications, scopes of work, and engineering requirements for contractors, vendors, and consulting firms. Support the integration of PLC-based automation systems, instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition systems, alarms, interlocks, and automated test sequences. Coordinate design, installation, commissioning, and start-up activities with contractors, suppliers, and engineering partners. Provide technical support during equipment installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, and operational optimization. Drive continuous improvements to infrastructure reliability, performance, maintainability, and safety. Ensure all infrastructure designs comply with applicable safety standards, engineering best practices, and manufacturing requirements. Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action activities related to test infrastructure performance and reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to support production objectives and future capacity planning. Requirements Required Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Professional Engineering Licensing Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience in manufacturing, industrial infrastructure, automation, utilities, or capital project environments. Strong understanding of piping design, fluid systems, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and industrial utility systems. Knowledge of industrial power distribution and high-power electrical applications. Experience working with industrial automation systems, PLCs, instrumentation, sensors, VFDs, control panels, and automated equipment. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping drawings, mechanical layouts, electrical schematics, and equipment documentation. Experience coordinating work with contractors, engineering consultants, vendors, and equipment suppliers. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical decision-making abilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment. Preferred Experience supporting manufacturing test systems or factory testing environments. Familiarity with liquid cooling systems, thermal management technologies, or industrial process equipment. Experience with equipment commissioning, start-up activities, and operational readiness reviews. Knowledge of industrial safety systems, controls integration, and reliability engineering principles.
