Senior Software Engineer, Platform and Infrastructure

About Ethical Paths Ethical Paths is an early-stage enterprise SaaS company building an AI-native compliance operating system for life science companies. Our founders are a former biopharma Chief Compliance Officer and a co-founder of DataRobot. Our customers will range from pre-commercial biotechs to global pharmaceutical companies. The Role We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, an individual contributor who pairs the execution speed of a founding developer with the systems-design foresight of a principal architect. You will own the core architecture of the platform and make the critical, hard-to-reverse engineering decisions on our data layer, isolation boundaries, and core service frameworks. This is a hands-on coding role coupled with strategic stewardship of the technical roadmap, and you will be at the table for every architectural decision. You will work directly with the founders to turn business requirements into durable software designs. What You Will Own Core architecture: The foundational application frameworks, high-throughput backend services, and internal APIs that the rest of the engineering team will scale upon. This includes identifying scalability bottlenecks, data consistency challenges, and architectural risks before they reach production.Engineering standards: Code standards, architectural review, and design patterns across the codebase.Isolation architecture: Structural boundaries for data isolation, storage, and processing across a growing fleet of independent customer deployments.Agent-oriented development: Specifications and acceptance criteria written precisely enough for agents to implement against, the bounds and verification gates that constrain that work, and the review of what comes back.Agent capability and evaluation: The tools agents are permitted to use, evaluation of their output, and the failure patterns worth designing against.Data Security: How customer data is separated, where it moves, what our AI does with it, and what we retain. You are the engineering voice on those questions in front of customer security teams. What We Are Looking For Must-have You have built and scaled complex distributed enterprise SaaS platforms as a senior individual contributor.You have experience across modern back-end environments, and front-end systems consuming complex data structures.You have depth in relational and non-relational database design, distributed caching, event-driven architecture, and secure isolation models.You have AWS depth including infrastructure-as-code.You have answered architecture and data-flow questions from enterprise customer security teams. Ideally for pharmaceutical, life sciences, or similarly regulated customers.Preferred Experience building AI agent systems in production.Experience with durable execution or workflow orchestration, for processes that run for hours or days and must survive failure.Experience designing audit trails and evidence models that hold up under external review.
