Lead Platform Engineer

We’ve helped ambitious brands grow faster, smarter, and globally. The Role We're hiring a Lead Platform Engineer to own our Google Cloud platform and the route our engineers take to production. You'll spend most of your time designing and building, and you'll manage one infrastructure engineer from day one. As the business grows we expect the platform team to grow with it, and we'd like you to lead that. You'll report to the Director of Engineering. What You'll Work On Completing the rollout of the next version of our platform while the current one keeps serving live traffic. Moving acquired sites, which currently deploy in their own ways, onto a common build and release path. Strengthening edge protection and resilience so the platform absorbs traffic spikes and hostile traffic. Giving every team clear visibility of what's deployed, when, and how often. Defining the route from prototype to production, including the checks a service needs before it goes live. What You'll Be Responsible For Platform and infrastructure Design, build and run scalable, secure infrastructure on GCP, defined in Terraform. Own networking and IAM design, including VPCs, ingress through Traefik, and encryption of data at rest and in transit. Make and record architecture decisions for the platform, and keep them visible to the wider team. Work with the software engineering team to ensure we’re delivering the right infrastructure at the right time. Work with our data engineers on the infrastructure behind BigQuery and our data pipelines. Delivery And Developer Experience Own our CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions and make deployments quick and repeatable. Build self-service tooling so product engineers can ship and run their own services with confidence. Reliability and security Set up monitoring, logging and alerting using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Prometheus and Grafana. Lead root cause analysis after incidents and see the fixes through. Build security into the delivery process early, and track and address vulnerabilities across the estate. Keep the platform in line with our regulatory obligations and internal policies. Leadership Line manage and develop our infrastructure engineer, with regular one-to-ones and a clear growth plan. Set platform standards and help the iGaming and Rewards tech leads adopt them. Shape the platform roadmap with the Director of Engineering and plan how the team grows. Hire into the platform team as it expands. About You Significant experience as a platform, cloud or infrastructure engineer, including time as the senior or lead engineer on a team. Deep, hands-on experience with GCP, including GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage and BigQuery. Strong Terraform skills and experience running infrastructure as code in production. Experience building and running CI/CD pipelines, ideally in GitHub Actions. Solid Docker and Kubernetes experience, including cluster networking and ingress. Scripting and programming ability in Python, Go or Bash. Experience with observability tooling and with leading incident response. Experience mentoring engineers, and a real interest in line management. Clear written and spoken English, and comfort explaining technical trade-offs to people outside engineering. Nice to have TypeScript or JavaScript experience. ArgoCD or other GitOps tooling. Experience in a regulated industry such as iGaming, fintech or health. Experience consolidating infrastructure after an acquisition or major migration. Experience building or growing a platform team.
