Senior Drupal Developer

We are seeking a Senior Drupal Developer to support and enhance a federal Drupal-based content management system (CMS). This role is responsible for sustaining a mature Drupal platform while leading targeted modernization efforts, including re-theming, component development, and information architecture (IA) improvements, in alignment with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on senior developer who understands the rigor of federal environments and can balance stability, accessibility, and incremental improvement. Key Responsibilities Drupal CMS Sustainment Maintain and support an enterprise Drupal CMS, including:Custom templates and componentsTheme maintenance and enhancementsDefect troubleshooting and resolutionPerform Drupal core, module, and security updatesSupport minor enhancements and change requests while maintaining platform stabilityEnsure CMS remains compliant with federal standards and best practicesCMS Modernization & Improvement Lead or support re-theming initiatives to improve usability, accessibility, and visual consistencyDesign and develop new Drupal templates and reusable componentsSupport information architecture (IA) improvements, including content structure and navigation updatesCollaborate with UX, content, and stakeholder teams to translate requirements into scalable CMS solutionsEnsure alignment with USWDS guidelines for federal digital servicesTechnical Collaboration & Quality Work closely with designers, content strategists, and other developersContribute to code reviews and uphold development standardsDocument technical solutions, components, and CMS configurationsSupport testing, validation, and deployment activitiesRequired Qualifications Technical Experience 5+ years of hands-on Drupal development experienceStrong experience with:Custom theming and templating (Twig)Component-based developmentDrupal core and contributed modulesExperience performing Drupal upgrades and maintenanceStrong front-end development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)Experience working with USWDS or federal design systemsProfessional Experience Experience supporting CMS platforms in federal or government contracting environmentsStrong understanding of accessibility (Section 508 / WCAG)Ability to work in structured, compliance-driven environmentsStrong communication and documentation skillsPreferred Qualifications Experience with Drupal re-theming or redesign initiativesFamiliarity with information architecture and content modelingExperience collaborating with UX and design teamsExperience with CI/CD pipelines for Drupal deploymentsActive federal clearance or ability to obtain one (if required)Who you are; Must be eligible to work in the USComfortable working remotelyComfortable collaborating within a Scrum TeamCapable of both deciding next actions, and knowing when the decision requires sign off from managementComfortable in a dynamic work environmentEmbrace AI assistants (e.g., ChatGPT, Notebook) as force multipliers to accelerate innovation, iterate faster, and maintain high-quality output.A good communicator with the ability to express and share ideas to business leaders with a non-technical backgroundAbility to work collaboratively within a group, actively network with others and provide varying feedback to the team at the appropriate time to ensure that decisions stick.Ability to identify and communicate constraints and can work within them.
