Job Summary Realta is a dynamic and innovative technology company dedicated to reshaping the landscape of financial risk and compliance management. We seek a curious, product-minded Junior Software Engineer to join our talented team at the Fraud & Risk Management Research & Development Centre of Excellence in Limerick City Centre. Position Overview As a Junior Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of our engineering team as we build and maintain our cutting-edge platform using modern software engineering practices and industry standards. You will collaborate closely with software engineers, tech leads, architects, and product managers in a supportive environment. Our platform leverages the power of artificial intelligence to address the complex challenges of fraud detection, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance in the financial industry. Should you be successful in your application, you will receive peer-to-peer mentorship, have access to learning resources, and be supported in developing your skills across the full software development life cycle, including, but not limited to: API design and management, microservices, unit testing, production readiness and observability. How you will contribute Write clean, readable, and maintainable code with appropriate test coverage.Participate actively in code reviews and pair programming sessions to learn best practices and ensure code quality.Collaborate with the engineering team to triage product and system issues, learning how to debug, monitor, and identify root causes.Research and evaluate new tools, frameworks, and technologies, contributing to hands-on evaluations and proof-of-concept (POC) projects.Collaborate with software engineers, UI/UX designers, and product management to deliver reliable software features.Contribute to high-quality technical documentation, such as API specifications and internal architecture notes.Participate in conversations and workshops with team members and stakeholders to understand product requirements and technical solutions. Desired Experience 1–3 years of experience in application development or equivalent project/internship experience.Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or relevant experience.Experience or interest in financial services, financial technology, or risk management is valued, but not required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn underlying application logic and architectural patterns.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable asking questions and discussing technical concepts in a collaborative team setting.Foundational knowledge of an object-oriented or backend programming language (e.g., Java, Go).Familiarity with modern microservices frameworks (e.g., SpringBoot, Quarkus).Exposure to automated testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito).Working knowledge of RESTful APIs and web communication concepts.Basic understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) or NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).Familiarity with build and dependency management tools (e.g., Maven, Gradle).Understanding of containerisation tools (e.g., Docker) and cloud-native concepts (e.g., AWS, GCP).Eagerness to leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code).Basic knowledge of version control systems using Git and platforms such as GitHub.Awareness of application observability concepts (e.g., logging, metrics, monitoring tools like Grafana or Prometheus). Additional information This is a hybrid role in our Limerick City office that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.
