The American Express Travel & Lifestyle Services (TLS) Test Team validates travel-related products and capabilities across the TLS product suite.
The Quality Engineer II supports User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Quality Assurance (QA) by preparing test strategies, developing and executing test scripts, maintaining test data and environments, logging results, and supporting defect resolution.
This role executes against the portfolio-level test and automation strategy and supports delivery in a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) environment.
The Quality Engineer II partners with Product Managers, vendors, American Express developers, and technical teams to coordinate end-to-end testing across the TLS portfolio and ensure quality principles and processes are consistently applied throughout software delivery.
Responsibilities
Coordinates and facilitates UAT/E2E testing activities across programs and large projects.Creates and maintains comprehensive test data sets to support systems integration, regression, and customer journey testing, ensuring accurate and reliable results.Monitors and tracks defect resolution, partnering with development teams to support timely and effective fixes.Participates in design discussions to identify quality risks early and recommend refinements to user story requirements.Defines, documents, and analyzes quality assurance metrics, including defect trends, test results, and test status, to identify improvement opportunities.Supports core quality principles and promotes adherence to quality standards, engineering practices, and continuous improvement.Develops, enhances, and maintains CI/CD automation processes, ensuring automated tests are integrated and executed effectively within delivery pipelines.Collaborates with product and business teams to align quality engineering activities with business objectives.Integrates agentic AI tools into test design, documentation, execution, and defect management workflows to improve testing efficiency and coverage across applications and systemsUses agentic AI analysis capabilities to identify defect patterns, testing gaps, and quality risks, providing recommendations for process improvementsApplies agentic AI testing and automation capabilities within continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines to enhance quality and delivery outcomesApplies responsible AI principles when using AI-enabled tools, including data privacy, bias awareness, human oversight, traceability, and validation of AI-generated outputs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or another technical discipline, or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred.Minimum of 5 years of experience in QA, UAT, or software testing.Experience with Agile, Agile at scale (SAFe), and other iterative application development methods Proficiency with Rally, JIRA, or similar development and defect tracking applications.Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Able to work flexible hours with occasional overtime as needed.Knowledge of testing methodologies, test data management tools, and at least one programming or scripting language.Working knowledge of AI-enabled testing capabilities within quality engineering, automation, and defect management tools.Understanding of AI use cases in software testing, including automated test generation, defect analysis, reporting, and test optimization techniques
Work Experience
Experience in writing test cases, running functional, automated, or performance tests, and managing and mitigating defectsExperience in Software Development Life Cycle (test, defect, reporting and metrics, etc.)Experience in automation and testing in a continuous deployment/continuous integration environmentExperience in quality scanning tools, ability to baseline and measure on-going quality metrics, and display via DashboardsExperience in working with the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)Experience in application programming interface testing, accessibility testing, chaos testing, security testing, performance testing, user interface testing, disaster recovery and relevant frameworksDesired skills/certification: Automation Frameworks, and Methodologies.Software engineering and development experience or a related job, with a focus on quality engineeringExperience applying agentic AI capabilities within functional, automated, performance, or regression testing activities in software delivery environmentsExperience validating AI agent-generated testing outputs and integrating AI agent-enabled practices into quality engineering and automation workflows
