Staff Backend Engineer (Go) – Cloud Platform New York City | $220,000–$300,000 Base + Equity Want to build the software behind a multi-cloud platform rather than maintain another company’s internal infrastructure? We’re looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join a fast-growing, VC-backed infrastructure software company in New York City. Its platform enables businesses to deploy and scale applications within their own AWS, GCP and Azure accounts, combining enterprise-grade Kubernetes infrastructure with a streamlined developer experience. This is a backend software engineering role building the control plane behind the platform. You’ll write production Golang (Go), design distributed systems and develop the orchestration software responsible for provisioning, managing and safely rolling out infrastructure changes across hundreds of customer cloud environments. You’ll join a small, highly technical team while the platform and its architecture are still highly shapeable. Infrastructure is the company’s product, not a support function, and your work will directly influence every customer deployment. This is a hands-on Staff-level individual contributor role. What you’ll be doing: Build backend services and APIs that provision and manage infrastructure across AWS, GCP and AzureDesign distributed workflows for orchestration, reconciliation, state management and asynchronous executionDevelop systems that safely coordinate infrastructure changes across hundreds of customer environmentsSolve complex problems involving failure recovery, rollbacks, reliability and cloud-provider differencesBuild abstractions that provide a consistent developer experience across multiple cloud platformsImprove the scalability, resilience and performance of the platform’s control planeOwn major technical problems from initial design through implementation and productionWork directly with customers to understand complex infrastructure requirements and turn them into product capabilitiesHelp shape engineering architecture, standards and technical direction as the company scales What we’re looking for: Strong backend software engineering experience, including designing and shipping production systemsCommercial experience building backend services in Golang (Go)Experience developing software that provisions, orchestrates, manages or controls infrastructureStrong understanding of distributed systems, APIs and asynchronous processingExperience with Kubernetes as a platform for infrastructure products or cloud servicesExperience with multi-cloud platforms: AWS, GCP or AzureA background in a PaaS, IaaS, cloud platform, developer infrastructure or internal developer platform companyThe ability to independently solve complex and ambiguous engineering problemsStrong communication skills and confidence working directly with customersExperience building infrastructure products at a VC-backed startup This role is best suited to a backend engineer who has built infrastructure products, control planes, orchestration systems or developer platforms. They are offering a base salary of $220,000–$300,000 plus equity, and great benefits including, 30 days of paid time off and up to 30 days of remote working each year.
