Forward Deployed Engineer Location: San Francisco (fully in office, 5 days a week; relocation possible) Compensation: $170k to $250k base Openings: 4 About the company A YC-backed AI company automating consumer lending. Its AI voice and SMS agents have already processed over $1 billion in payments, and the company is on track for roughly $6M in revenue this year while growing from 10 to 30 people. The role You will be the technical face inside top-10 US mortgage lenders. That means embedding with the customer, turning compliance-heavy workflows into production AI agents, and owning the account end to end. What we're looking for 3+ years of professional engineering experience (sweet spot is 3 to 5), including at least 1 year in a customer-facing roleStrong Python, Java or TypeScript, and comfort building APIs and backend systemsAbility to own projects end to end with limited or no guidanceConfidence working with both business leaders and engineersDaily, fluent use of AI tooling such as Claude, Cursor or CodexGenuine interest in the mortgage and lending space Background A strong software engineer who wants to be in the room with customers, rather than a solutions consultant who dabbles in codePalantir Forward Deployed Engineers are the closest match, and applied engineers at AI agent companies also fit well Nice to have Previous experience as a forward deployed, solutions or sales engineerVoice agent, telephony or contact-center infrastructure experienceExperience in compliance-heavy vertical AI (legal, healthcare, financial) Who will thrive here An engineer who builds trust through speed, empathy and impactSomeone who can scope ambiguous customer requests and iterate them into stable deploymentsSomeone whose customer learnings help shape the core product roadmap Work authorization H-1B transfers and TN status are fine, and O-1 works.
