Forward Deployed Engineer | Healthcare AI | £100k–£130k + Equity Location: London Salary: £100k-£130k + equity What happens when you give healthcare teams more capacity without simply asking already stretched people to work harder? That’s the problem this team is tackling... I’m working with an ambitious healthcare AI company building an agentic workforce for hospitals, taking on repetitive operational work and giving healthcare teams more time back for the work that actually needs humans. And importantly, this isn't theoretical. Their technology is already being deployed into real healthcare environments, solving operational problems today. They're now growing their Forward Deployed Engineering team. This is probably one of the harder engineering roles I recruit for, because it requires more than being an excellent Software Engineer. You'll sit directly between engineering, product and the customer, getting inside how individual healthcare organisations actually operate, identifying what should be automated and then building the software to make it happen. Every environment is different. Requirements won't arrive neatly packaged. Existing technology can be complicated. Users may describe symptoms rather than the underlying problem. Your job is to figure it out! What you'll be doing: Working directly with healthcare organisations to understand their workflows and biggest operational problemsDesigning and building production software across Python/FastAPI and ReactTaking loosely defined problems from initial conversation through architecture, build, deployment and iterationBuilding AI-powered workflows that integrate into existing healthcare systemsMaking pragmatic decisions where reliability, speed and real-world consequences all matterTurning lessons from individual deployments into reusable capabilities within the wider platformTaking significant ownership without waiting for someone else to tell you exactly what to do You could be a Product Engineer who wants to get much closer to users. A Software Engineer who's consistently ended up owning things beyond their code. Or someone from a customer-facing engineering environment who misses building things themselves. What matters is that you're technically strong and comfortable operating outside the traditional boundaries of engineering. You'll need strong software engineering fundamentals, particularly across backend development and Python, alongside the communication skills to work directly with customers and non-technical stakeholders. Experience building with LLMs, RAG, agents, tool calling, MCP, vector search or frameworks such as LangChain/LangGraph is useful, but they're not hiring based on who has the longest list of AI tools on their CV. They're looking for people who can think, build, communicate and own outcomes. You'll work alongside a highly capable, ambitious team with significant healthcare and engineering experience. Expectations are high, feedback is direct and ownership comes early, but this isn't about performative hustle or being online at midnight.
