Hardware Engineer

Hardware Engineer - £40,000 per annum - 5 days per week onsite – Southampton - Must be eligible for SC Clearance We’re looking for an experienced Hardware Engineer to join a highly critical operational environment. This is a genuinely hands-on hardware engineering position and would particularly suit someone who enjoys working with legacy technology, older enterprise infrastructure and electro-mechanical equipment. If you’ve spent your career around mainframes, tape systems, enterprise servers, printers and component-level hardware repair, this could be an excellent fit. What you’ll be doing: Diagnosing, repairing and maintaining enterprise and legacy hardwareSupporting IBM Mainframes and Tape SystemsMaintaining storage arrays, servers, PCs, printers and bespoke systemsTroubleshooting hardware faults in a critical/high-availability environmentCarrying out electro-mechanical and component-level repairsUsing soldering skills to repair specialist equipmentWorking across workshop and machine-room environmentsCollaborating with engineering teams and technical stakeholders We’re particularly interested in experience with: IBM Mainframes – 9672, 2003, 2066, 2096IBM Tape Systems – 3490, VTS, 3590EMC / STK DASD StorageIBM PSeriesHP ProLiantDell & Sun ServersPC hardware repair and custom buildsDot Matrix & Laser PrintersElectro-mechanical repairSoldering / component-level repairAIX / HP-UX environments You don't need experience across every technology listed. Strong hardware fault-finding and repair experience, particularly with older or legacy infrastructure, is key. Due to the nature of the environment, applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain SC clearance. Sponsorship for the clearance process is available for suitable candidates.
