About the Role The Opportunity We are recruiting for a Chartered Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join an established civil and geotechnical engineering consultancy in Croydon with a minimum of 8 years exoperience. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced geotechnical engineer who is ready to take greater ownership of projects, manage a small developing team and progress towards a Principal Engineer position. The successful candidate will lead geotechnical design work from concept through to detailed design, support commercial project delivery, contribute to fee proposals and client development, and help shape the growth of the Croydon geotechnical team. You will have support from the wider geotechnical business while being given the autonomy to develop the local team and build your managerial and commercial experience. The Role You will combine technical delivery with project management, commercial responsibility and team leadership. You will initially manage and support a small geotechnical team in Croydon, with the opportunity to develop into a broader Principal Engineer role as the team grows. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Geotechnical Design Undertake concept and detailed geotechnical designIdentify key geotechnical risks and develop appropriate mitigation measuresCarry out earthworks designUndertake slope stability assessmentsComplete shallow and piled foundation designDesign soil nails and ground anchorsUndertake gravity and embedded retaining wall designApply Eurocode requirements and relevant UK design standardsProduce clear technical calculations, drawings and sketches Technical Reporting Prepare Ground Investigation ReportsPrepare Geotechnical Design ReportsReview and interpret ground investigation informationDevelop geotechnical parameters and design recommendationsProduce technically clear and commercially focused reports Project & Commercial Management Manage projects from initial brief through to technical deliveryBalance technical quality with project profitabilityMonitor budgets, programmes and project performancePrepare fee proposalsSupport tenders and new work opportunitiesMaintain strong client relationshipsContribute to repeat business and business development activity Team Leadership Manage workload across the Croydon geotechnical teamSupport and mentor junior engineersReview technical work and maintain quality standardsAssist with recruitment as the team growsParticipate in interviews for junior and graduate engineersSupport the wider UK geotechnical team as requiredDevelop towards responsibility at Principal Engineer level Qualifications Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related disciplineMSc in Geotechnical Engineering advantageousIdeally Chartered8 years UK project experience Required Skills Strong geotechnical design capabilityExperience with foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and slope stabilityKnowledge of Eurocodes and CDM RegulationsStrong technical report writing skillsExperience managing projects and commercial performanceAbility to prepare fee proposalsStrong client-facing and communication skillsAbility to supervise and mentor junior engineers Preferred Skills Rail-sector experienceAutoCAD experienceExperience using geotechnical design softwarePrevious team management or mentoring responsibilityExperience supporting business development and winning work Salary & Benefits Competitive salaryAnnual profit-related bonus30 days’ annual leave including public holidaysOption to purchase up to 5 additional days’ leaveCompany pension schemeGroup life insurancePrivate medical insurance / healthcareAnnual professional membership fees paidContinuous technical training and professional developmentEmployee-owned business structure Equal Opportunity Statement Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.
