Salary: Up to £55,000 + Benefits Hybrid Working Available Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Role | North London | Up to £55,000 | Hybrid Working A Global Engineering & Manufacturing Giant, specialising in the design and manufacture of high relability / high integrity engineered product are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer on a Staff basis, owing to an internal promotion and succession planning within the business. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to move into a genuine product ownership role, becoming the technical authority for a range of established products used across multiple industrial sectors. Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and customers, you'll be responsible for driving continuous improvement, cost reduction, product robustness and lifecycle management activities whilst ensuring products remain compliant, competitive and aligned with future customer requirements. The business has ambitious growth plans and is investing significantly in both its engineering capability and product portfolio, creating excellent long-term progression opportunities for the successful candidate. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Role This position sits between traditional Design Engineering and Technical Leadership. Rather than focusing purely on developing new products, you'll take ownership of existing products throughout their lifecycle, ensuring they continue to meet customer, manufacturing and regulatory requirements whilst driving improvements in cost, quality, reliability and performance. You'll work closely with a global NPD function, taking ownership of products once they have been released into production and becoming the recognised Subject Matter Expert internally and externally. Alongside standard product development activities, you'll support engineered-to-order and customer-specific solutions across a diverse range of industrial sectors. This role offers significant exposure to customers and stakeholders, with the opportunity to influence product strategy, future product development and engineering best practice. Key Responsibilities of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Take technical ownership of an established mechanical and electromechanical product portfolioAct as the recognised Subject Matter Expert for assigned productsDrive product improvement, value engineering and cost reduction initiativesImprove product reliability, manufacturability and long-term design robustnessReview and approve engineering designs, drawings and technical documentationSupport product compliance and ensure adherence to relevant engineering standards and regulationsWork closely with Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain teams to improve product performance and resolve technical issuesLead engineering investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actionsSupport validation, verification and testing activitiesDevelop bespoke and customised engineering solutions to meet customer requirementsParticipate in customer meetings to understand technical requirements and deliver practical engineering solutionsSupport competitor analysis and future product roadmap activitiesProvide technical leadership, mentoring and engineering guidance to the wider team Requirements for Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Role BEng or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)Proven Mechanical Design Engineering experience within a manufacturing environmentExperience taking ownership of products throughout their lifecycleStrong Design for Manufacture (DFM) experienceExperience working with machined components, castings, mouldings, fabricated assemblies and welded structuresStrong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processesExperience working to engineering standards, specifications and technical compliance requirementsStrong stakeholder management and customer-facing skillsExperience working closely with Quality, Manufacturing and Supply Chain functionsAbility to balance technical performance, manufacturability, quality and commercial objectivesExcellent problem-solving and continuous improvement experience Desirable SolidWorks experienceGD&T and BS8888FEA and tolerance stack-up analysisDFMEA and PFMEAJig, tooling and fixture designProduct validation and testing experienceSheet metal design experienceExperience mentoring or supporting engineersExperience within Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Marine, Offshore, Defence, Nuclear, Rail or other highly regulated engineering environments What's In It For You?
