Head of Data / Senior Data Engineer

We are working with a global asset management firm who are looking to hire a Senior Data Engineer into its London IT team. The title is Head of Data but this will very much be a hands-on engineering position with one or two direct reports and exposure to the CEO. The team has a flat structure and owns the firm's front and middle office applications, working across front office, operations, risk, finance, compliance and legal, so you'll be close to the business. You'll join a major migration programme moving investment, accounting, risk, performance, reconciliation and reporting functions off complex vendor platforms and onto a new data and reporting architecture built largely from scratch. You'll also support the firm's AI initiatives and help run the platform once it's live. This suits someone who has worked with large, messy financial datasets in production and enjoys both the engineering and understanding what the data means. What you'll be doing Designing and building end-to-end data solutions in Snowflake, with a focus on scalability, performance and reliability (they are agnostic on data platform use)Working across multiple source systems and data models (transactions, positions, valuations, performance, risk) and reconciling how they fit togetherWriting performance-aware SQL and building data models suited to high-volume financial dataOwning data quality, validation and financial correctnessBuilding data models, dashboards and reports that give senior stakeholders useful insightRunning gap analysis on existing systems and processes and recommending improvementsExplaining outcomes, assumptions and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues What they're looking for Senior level data engineering experience in financial servicesStrong SQL and PythonHands-on cloud based data warehouse experience (Snowflake ideally but not a must have) and solid ETL experienceA good grasp of relational databases and data modellingExperience with Sigma, Power BI or a similar BI toolA methodical approach and strong attention to detailExperience conversing with PMs and Traders and advising on best practicesFamiliarity with AI tools for analysis and with Agile ways of workingA degree in IT, Data Science, Business or a related field, or equivalent experience Due to demand, we are advertising this opportunity anonymously.
