About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal AWS Cloud Engineer to join MANTECH’s dynamic enterprise cloud team in Chantilly, VA. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary AWS technical authority, responsible for the design, deployment, and security management of our primary AWS environment. Your expertise will be instrumental in enhancing cloud security monitoring, threat detection, and ensuring the seamless integration of multi-cloud environments including Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead complex cloud initiatives, develop automation workflows, and influence security architectures at an enterprise level. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of cloud security best practices, infrastructure automation, and multi-cloud governance, contributing significantly to MANTECH’s mission of delivering secure and resilient cloud solutions. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background complemented by extensive hands-on experience in cloud engineering. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred; however, equivalent professional experience spanning over 7 years in cloud computing and engineering will be considered. Certification requirements include an active DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification such as Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+, SSCP, or GSEC, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Proven expertise in designing, building, and securing enterprise AWS environments is essential, with familiarity in services such as EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Route53, RDS, CloudFront, and Lambda. Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell, along with experience in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation), are critical. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in multi-account governance, Zero Trust security architectures, and automated cloud security monitoring pipelines. A comprehensive understanding of federal compliance frameworks and security standards is highly desirable. Responsibilities Serve as the principal subject matter expert for the administration, security hardening, and management of AWS enterprise infrastructure and cloud footprint.Architect, deploy, and optimize automated cloud security monitoring, threat detection, and event-driven logging pipelines utilizing AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, AWS Config, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, EventBridge, and Lambda.Lead the deployment of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC) solutions using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation, following a code-first, audited workflow to ensure consistency and compliance.Enforce IAM governance, Service Control Policies (SCPs), least-privilege access, permission boundaries, and Zero Trust security architectures across multi-account AWS Organizations.Provide Tier 3 escalation support to diagnose and resolve complex technical, network, security, and performance challenges across AWS and connected environments.Develop and maintain automation scripts in Python, Bash, or PowerShell to streamline operations, vulnerability remediation, and system health telemetry.Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to align AWS security baselines with secondary cloud environments such as Azure and OCI, documenting workflows and Service Design Packages for audit readiness.
