Backend Engineer

We’re partnering with an emerging AI company building software that enables intelligent agents to perform real-world business operations across complex enterprise environments. Its platform gives AI systems the infrastructure, permissions, integrations, and tooling needed to interact with the software businesses already rely on, automating workflows that traditionally require significant manual effort. The Role As a Backend Engineer, you’ll help develop the core platform that allows these AI systems to operate safely and reliably at scale. You’ll work across backend architecture, infrastructure, security, integrations, and developer tooling, with significant ownership over systems that directly support enterprise customers. Key Responsibilities Build scalable backend services supporting AI-driven applications and enterprise workloads.Develop foundational systems for authentication, identity, authorization, permissions, and tenant management.Create secure integrations between AI agents and tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Teams, Zoom, email, and telephony.Build and maintain integrations across enterprise platforms including NetSuite, SharePoint, Google Drive, SAP, Oracle, and similar systems.Design APIs and service architectures that enable AI applications to reliably communicate with external systems.Develop infrastructure and tooling for customer provisioning, configuration, deployment, and environment management.Own services throughout their lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, deployment, monitoring, debugging, and optimization.Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and operational resilience as usage grows.Partner with AI, infrastructure, and product engineers on architecture, service boundaries, APIs, and platform abstractions.Automate repetitive operational and deployment processes to improve engineering efficiency.Build security controls around data isolation, access management, auditing, and execution of AI workflows.Participate in technical architecture decisions as the platform and engineering organization scale.Take projects from initial technical design through implementation and production ownership.Help establish engineering standards and reusable patterns across the backend organization. What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.2+ years of professional experience developing backend software, distributed systems, infrastructure, or cloud-based services.Experience building production systems where reliability, scalability, security, and performance are important.Strong knowledge of APIs, distributed architectures, authentication, authorization, IAM, RBAC, and access controls.Experience integrating software with enterprise SaaS platforms or business-critical applications.Hands-on experience with cloud environments, production deployments, monitoring, observability, and operational tooling.Ability to troubleshoot technical problems across both application and infrastructure layers.Strong engineering fundamentals and sound judgment around production architecture.Proven ability to independently own projects from design through deployment and ongoing operation.Exposure to enterprise security, compliance, SOC 2, data protection, or access governance is a plus.Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across backend, infrastructure, AI, and product teams.Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment where priorities and technical requirements evolve quickly.
