Senior PHP Developer

This remote position is open for candidates based within Sigli’s hiring regions: Europe, Central Asia, Balkans, Caucasus. About the project: Our client is a tech-enabled lead generation company. They help businesses acquire high-quality leads through digital channels such as paid social, native, email and video advertising, all on a pay-per-lead model. At the core of their business is proprietary, AI-driven technology that optimizes campaigns in real time and handles lead distribution to clients. You will join their long-term internal product: a custom-built, in-house content management system, similar in concept to WordPress, that the team uses to create and manage websites and landing pages for their campaigns. The system is currently being developed by an external vendor and is now being transferred in-house. We are looking for a senior backend engineer who will take full ownership of the backend: get to know the existing codebase, take it over from the vendor, and become the go-to person for its further development. There is a frontend team, but you will be the only backend engineer, so independence and a thoughtful, ownership-driven approach are essential. Engagement: part-time (25-30 h/week) with a path to full-time. Long-term project, remote. What you will do: Take over the existing Laravel-based system from the current vendor and build a deep understanding of its architecture, business logic and integrations with minimal guidance.Own the backend end to end: maintenance, stability, performance and further development of new features.Identify technical debt, risks and weak spots in the inherited codebase and propose and implement improvements.Work closely with the frontend team on APIs and feature delivery.Make well-reasoned technical decisions independently and communicate them clearly to the team and stakeholders.Document the system and knowledge gathered during the handover so that it stays transparent and maintainable. What you bring: 4+ years of production experience in backend development with PHP and Laravel.Proven experience taking over and working with existing (legacy or third-party) codebases.Strong understanding of backend architecture, REST APIs, relational databases and performance optimization.Experience with Vue.js is nice to have.High level of autonomy: able to dig into an unfamiliar system, ask the right questions and move forward without close supervision.A thoughtful, analytical approach and a strong sense of ownership.Good communication skills in English (B2 level).
