Java Developer

Intellectica is recruiting a Java Developer on behalf of a publicly listed, international technology leader in regulated gaming. The company delivers lottery, iGaming, iLottery and sports betting solutions to partners worldwide, and its platforms handle high volumes of real-time transactions where security and reliability are critical. Based in Paiania, Attiki, working under a hybrid working model, as part of a growing multinational engineering team, you'll build and evolve backend systems in a modern microservices environment and take part in an active migration to Java 21. Key activities and responsibilities of this role include: Solution Design & Architecture Work with the team to analyze business requirements and turn them into scalable, secure backend solutionsContribute to design decisions for new and existing microservices, including API contracts, data models and service interactionsTake an active part in the platform's technical evolution, including the migration from Java 17 to Java 21 Development & Delivery Design, develop and maintain RESTful services and web applications using Java and Spring BootBuild robust, high-performance components, applying multithreading and concurrency best practices where neededIntegrate with relational databases (MySQL) through Hibernate/JPA, keeping data access efficient and reliableWork with event-driven and containerized infrastructure (Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes) Quality & Engineering Excellence Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code that follows team standardsDevelop and maintain unit and integration tests (JUnit), and take part in code reviewsTroubleshoot, debug and resolve issues across environments to keep critical systems stable Collaboration & Support Work closely with developers, QA, DevOps and product stakeholders in an agile environmentProvide technical support to internal teams and external customers when neededKeep up with new technologies and share knowledge that improves how the team builds software Professional experience & qualifications of a successful candidate: Academic background in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field3+ years of professional experience in Java backend development (Java 11+; Java 17 is a strong advantage as well as exposure to Java 21 or version migrations is a plus)Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, building RESTful APIs and microservices architectureA solid understanding of microservices architecture and its design principles.Practical knowledge of multithreading and concurrent programmingExperience with relational databases (MySQL preferred) and ORM frameworks (Hibernate/JPA)Experience with unit testing frameworks (JUnit)Familiarity with version control (Git; SVN is a plus) and build tools (Maven)Kafka, Docker and Kubernetes experience is a strong advantageBackground in high-transaction or regulated environments (e.g. gaming, fintech, payments) is a plusVery good command of English, both written and spoken Core competencies of a successful candidate: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to finding root causes and practical solutionsHigh attention to detail and commitment to clean, maintainable, well-tested codeSense of ownership, following work through from design to productionAwareness of security, integrity and compliance in a regulated, high-transaction environmentStrong collaboration and communication skills within cross-functional, multinational teamsCuriosity and a continuous learning mindset, with adaptability to new tools, technologies and change Apply now!
