Senior Backend Developer - E-commerce

For our client, we are seeking a Sr. Backend Developer - e-commerce to join the team of a leader in the Retail & Consumer Goods space. This role will focus on building and supporting the backend systems that power e-commerce operations, with an emphasis on Magento and headless architecture. You will partner closely with engineering and business stakeholders to deliver reliable integrations, improve automation, and strengthen release quality across the digital commerce stack. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in backend development and the ability to support scalable online storefront operations in a fast-moving retail environment. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $150,000 – $180,000 annually Responsibilities Own backend development, ensuring reliable, maintainable Magento solutions from design to release Build and integrate APIs using REST and GraphQL, focusing on asynchronous and headless systems Automate engineering and business tasks using AI tools while implementing appropriate validation and error management Improve testing workflows by incorporating unit tests and automated quality checks into release pipelines Support e-commerce storefront and integration development, enhancing operational automation Contribute to engineering practices by participating in design discussions, code reviews, and deployment processes Qualifications 5+ years of Magento / Adobe Commerce experience, including custom module development Experience with GraphQL, focusing on schema definitions and custom resolvers Skilled in building REST and GraphQL integrations and handling webhook consumers Practical knowledge of AI tools for workflow automation beyond code generation Proficient in scripting with Python, Node.js, PHP, or similar for operational tasks Experience with PHPUnit for unit testing and validating AI-generated tests Familiar with Shopify Liquid and APIs, including app development Benefits Fully remote work experience Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision packages 401K with employer match Quarterly bonus program Flexible PTO Daily wellness breaks Free lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays Monthly wellness and stipends for internet and cell phone Annual learning and development stipend Free meditation app membership Employee product subscription Pet insurance discounts and benefits Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
