About The Role Reddit is seeking a talented Front End Software Engineer specializing in media player development to join our remote team in the United States. In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping the next generation of Reddit’s media web experience. Your primary focus will be on developing and optimizing our web media player and the APIs that support it, ensuring seamless, low-latency video and audio playback for millions of users worldwide. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including product managers, designers, and other engineers—to deliver innovative features that enhance user engagement and content delivery. Your expertise will contribute to designing scalable, maintainable, and high-performance full-stack solutions, drawing inspiration from industry-leading streaming platforms. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence how multimedia content is experienced across Reddit’s platform, ensuring a high-quality, interactive, and globally accessible media experience. Qualifications BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.Minimum of 3 years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby.Proficiency with frontend technologies including React and TypeScript for UI development.Experience designing and implementing APIs using GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, or Thrift.Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on schedule.Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively in a fully remote environment and discussing complex technical topics with both technical and non-technical audiences.Knowledge of multimedia streaming patterns, low-latency playback, and interactive media tools is a plus. Responsibilities Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams to develop features aligned with Reddit’s product and business strategies.Participate in the full development lifecycle, including technical design, coding, testing, experimentation, analysis, and deployment.Design and implement end-to-end full-stack solutions, focusing on optimizing web UI components for the media player and backend APIs that support them.Ensure high-quality releases by balancing rapid development with rigorous testing to avoid bugs and performance issues.Review code and design documentation, providing constructive feedback to improve overall code quality and product specifications.Work with client and platform engineers to improve media performance and content delivery globally.Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and workflows to enhance team productivity and code maintainability.Mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering technical growth within the team.
