Backend Software Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a Software Engineer Backend to join the team of a leader in the Energy & Utilities space. This role will focus on building and maintaining backend systems that support scalable, reliable software in a mission-driven environment. You will partner closely with Product Managers and engineering teams to deliver features, improve data quality, and strengthen platform performance. The work will also involve supporting production readiness and on-call operations while contributing to systems that help advance climate-focused solutions. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $116,000 – $165,000 annually Responsibilities Design and produce robust, testable, and maintainable code Develop and manage Python backend services and relational database schemas Collaborate with Product Managers to deliver scalable features Improve system reliability and data quality with engineering teams Monitor and triage production service issues during on-call rotations Create new capabilities using existing modules and shared components Coordinate across multiple engineering teams for project success Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred 3+ years of backend engineering experience Proficiency in Python or Go Experience with microservices in cloud-based systems Strong problem-solving skills and code ownership Benefits Flexible remote work options during standard US West Coast hours In-office work 2 days/week for Bay Area candidates Equity options available Dynamic and fast-paced work environment Collaborative culture focused on climate crisis solutions Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
